Dear Listers I have discovered a little goldmine of information if you have a relative who worked for Hayward Tyler Ltd in Luton during the period 1900 to 1950. In the Bedfordshire and Luton Archives they have a collection [reference SP] of three books, amongst others. The first gives the names of all 'shop floor' employees who had worked for the company and the other two books [one contains surnames with the letters A to L, and the other M to Z] give the names of those who had left the company and the reason for leaving. The information for each employee includes their date of birth, their address, occupation, weekly salary and their National Insurance number. The surnames are in alphabetical order. A potted history of the company is given in the index book for the SP records and so it is possible to relate company events with both local and worldwide events and so place your ancestor in a time context.
