    3. Hi Marlene, Your reference to an Ann Stringer interested me, I've been searching for references to Ann Stringer for some time, I have a widow Ann Stringer who married an ancestor of mine John Sells on Nov 11th 1742. Her maiden name was Emmerson and her late husband was Frances Stringer, there were children from the first marriage and your Ann may have been the daughter of mine. Maybe I've been looking in the wrong place, I have Barton le Clay as the place of the wedding to John and I assumed Ann was from thar area. If you come across anything that you feel might be of use to me I would appreciate a note. Thanks a lot Brian Sells ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marlene Shipman" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, July 12, 2008 9:06 AM Subject: Re: [BDF] Samuel Hite > Kia Ora > Greetings from across the Ditch! > Interestingly there is a member's submission (not always to be trusted!) > on the Mormon site (LDS) which indicates a William Hite was baptised at > Colmworth in 1798. 3. Hi Brian Sorry! I was just replying to another post & trying to be helpful! However I do have Stringers in my tree which give me a headache every time I think about it! They're much later and from Bath. However I must say - don't be surprised by movements between villages and /or Counties. I have discovered there were many reasons behind travel! 1. Around 1800 many men who joined the National Defence were obliged to attend "training camps" well away from the home village. (This may account for some illegitimate births in unexpected places and large gaps in the usual family). 2. Individuals were "selected" by employers to move to "family seats" in another County. (I have one such. He moved from Riseley Beds to become the labourer on an estate in Hunts owned by the big brother of the local Vicar. Later his children moved to London and it was only by doing sideline research that I discovered the address given on Marriage Certs was the London townhouse of the estate owner in Hunts. Obviously the staff moved with the Employer! The message here is that recording everything (!!) becomes important if you want to try and understand the social conditions of the time! And take educated guesses at the reasons behind movements! Unfortunately I am stuck with my family as I have a birth circa 1761 place unknown , parents unknown etc! I therefor cannot help much with your dates of circa 1742! BUT I would look carefully at the marriage cert for witnesses and other entries on the pages around the event. Your Ann may already have moved village with her first husband! Look for clues in the names of the children (grandparents etc) and ensure you track every individual in the family right through their life! Good luck Marlene Brian and Betty Sells wrote: > Hi Marlene, > Your reference to an Ann Stringer interested me, I've been searching for > references to Ann Stringer for some time, I have a widow Ann Stringer who > married an ancestor of mine John Sells on Nov 11th 1742.
