Hello Dianne, I think that we might well have corresponded a little some years ago. Yes Arthur was indeed a member of that family. Several of the family were chimney sweeps but I do not know if Arthur ever took up the career. He was mobilized in Aug 1914 and sent abroad almost right away. I think that he might possibly have been in the army before as there is no trace of him on the 1901 census. 1st battalion Bedfordshires were in India at the time. I don't know what he was doing imeadiately prior to 1914. A long time to wait for the 1911 census to give a clue. The family originally came over from Ireland. I have had a quick look at BLARS via a google search and couldn't find what anything useful but will give it another go. Regards, Chris

Our own Gt. Uncle from Bucks joined the King's Rifles and served in Africa. On return was demustered or what ever they do and was living in Hertfordshire. At the start of the War he either volunteered or was called back and joined the 1st. Battallion Bedfordshire Regiment as being the nearest, I assume. As he was 42 it could mean he was a reservist. Its ironic that they were in the same place at the same time in 1915. Have you checked whether his sevice record survived? Not sure will be of any help but you are welcome.
