    3. Peter, I am not an expert on the subject, but I believe one only got a pension if wounded on active service. This was certainly the case in 1914-1918. I assume the thinking was that if you survived the period of your engagement, you were fit enough to get work once you left the army. Also, bear in mind, there was no retirement age - you worked until the day you died if you had no means of support.
