Thanks Steven. Have been to your site in the past and its has been a great help. Your info on William in 1891 also confirms what other's have thought as well. Any idea what a Navvy was? Originally the surname was spelled Kimpton but for whatever reason he changed it to Kempton. He married Sarah Betts about 1872 and had several children Sarah Matilda, William Arthur, Sophia Grace, Emily Jane, James. Supposedly there are two additional children Tom born 1882 and Eliza Maud born 1885. I've not been able to confirm either of these births as being the children of William and Sarah - can anyone help with that? Secondly sometime between 1885 and 1887 Sarah left William taking up with Alfred George Clayton. Their first daughter was born in 1887. As to what happened to William is unknown. I've found two census records in 1891 for a William born 1852 in Bedfordshire - one with a wife Ann and the other with a wife Louisa. According to early census records William was an "Ag Labourer" and these two census records list him as a Boot Repairer and a Navvy. When daughter Emily Jane married in 1906 she listed her father as being a Construction Foreman so obviously he was still living at that time. (Her father in law was listed as deceased). Anyone have any idea's as to where to go from here in locating the correct records and or death entry for William. Partial transcripts of Great Barford census returns and parish registers can be found on my website at http://www.sgibbs1.freeserve.co.uk/gtbarford/ For what it's worth, I'm almost certain that the correct 1891 census record is the one where William is in Tottenham, as a navvy. (The Bedford boot repairer can also be found in 1881 and marries in 1885 which rules him out.)
