    3. If could make all this work if the marriage certificate was for Annie Matilda Sinfield, not Ann Elizabeth. Annie Matilda Sinfield was born to Daniel Frederick & Hannah Sinfield on 19th Nov 1887 and baptised 8th Feb 1891 at St John, Bethnal Green. Daniel was a carman. The family can be found in 1891, written and indexed as Linfield RG12/270 f125 p19. The family can be found in 1901, indexed by Ancestry as Linfield (the image is ambiguous, but I think it is an "S", not "L"). The father's name is given as Frederick, now a widower, but it is definitely the right family. RG13/292 f60 p49. Maybe Annie didn't like the name Matilda. Or maybe, despite all the coincidences, this is the wrong family. Steven

    3. Steven, You're brilliant. Don't tell me the christening was on IGI. It was that late, I didn't even bother to check. I'm prepared to accept Annie Matilda (Elizabeth) Sinfield. It fits on age and location, and we have the right parents. I'll now have to find when and where Daniel (or Frederick) was born and see if we can link him with one of the many Sinfield families from Bedfordshire. Many thanks, Peter

    3. Thanks to some brilliant detective work from Steven Gibbs, I think I can put this case to bed. ( I must be getting old. It's usually me that does these sort of finds.) Free BMD has an Jun 1874 marriage at Whitechapel between Daniel Frederick Sinfield and Hanna Mortimer. Daniel variously swaps between Daniel and Frederick. In 1891 and 1901 the surname is mistranscribed as Linfield. In 1881, he is Frederick Sinfield. In 1891, he is Daniel Linfield In 1901, he is Frederick Linfield. To confuse matters further, eldest daughter Hannah is registered as Anne Elizabeth in 1874, but youngest daughter is registered as Annie Matilda but marries as Ann Elizabeth. But all the other pieces fit. A son Alfred is born in Dec 1898 and the death of his mother Hannah is registered in March qtr 1899 at age 48. And in 1901 Frederick is shown as a widower with most of the other children. So thanks again Steven for the help. It looks like they don't link to the Bedfordshire families after all. Peter
