I'm doing a One Name Study of the name Hockliffe and variations such as Hackliffe and Hockcliffe., see http://www.one-name.org/profiles/hockliffe.html While at Dame Alice in the '50's I'd had a Saturday job in the birthday card section of Hockliffe's book shop in the High Street (where the Yorkshire Bank is now situated) without realising there was a family connection. Until I searched the 1881 census disks I didn't realise how rare the name was and this was long after I'd moved from Bedford. I'm wondering if any members of the list have links into the family. I'd be very happy to share information. Helen Hunting Hockliffes Everywhere
