We have just received the death certificate for my husband's great grandfather. Joseph Hall died 2nd Jul 1938, aged 78, at 3 Kimbolton Road, Bedford. Informant was his niece L. H. DARRINGTON of 110 Foster Hill Road Bedford. Certifying doctor was H. Dean POLLARD M.B. The address at Kimbolton Road is now called Cedar House. Does anyone know what kind of hospital was on that site in 1938? L. H. DARRINGTON would be Louisa, whose mother was Joseph's sister, Lucy HALL. Lucy married Samuel Addington DARRINGTON. Doctor Herbert Dean POLLARD died in 1958, but I have not found much about him yet. Any research links there for anyone? Regards Lee in Australia
Lee On that site is a hospital and it's been there for a very long time, Cedar house is now probably a clinic of some kind, they give sex clinics and the like posh names, still part of the hospital, which is called Bedford Hospital (North Wing) because there is a more modern hospital called South Wing!! I don't know if this is any help but in the 1911 census, 3, Kimbolton Road is the address of the Bedford Union Workhouse. I don't know when it changed its name or purpose.
