    3. Ralph, I think the 1798 Luton marriage to Mary Matthews looks a good fit. They have a "fling in the Spring" early 1798, she gets pregnant, they duck over to Luton to get married in April and their first child Ann arrives late August and is christened in early September at Shillington. The Luton marriage shows as an extracted record, so I'd imagine LDS has access to original images. While they may not have it on hand at your local LDS centre, they should be able to order it in for you. I stand to be corrected. I can see lots of Harris christenings on Shillington batches, so assume he was from there. A John b1775 to John & Grace looks a likely candidate. But there are no Matthews families, so she looks to be from another parish which again supports the Luton theory. Looking for Mary Matthews c1770-1790 there are 24 possibilities on IGI in Bedfordshire. Assuming she was not from another county, a close look at those 24 would whittle them down to three or four after eliminating duplicate and those too young to marry in 1798. Includes in the 24 are some user submissions that show spouses. They to will be eliminated. I believe you are correct with Mary Simons not Lemons. I've never seen a transcription error in an extracted record before. It obviously happens. I'm not sure if LDS have a system for correction. While there are no Mary Lemons records in Bedfordshire, there is a number of possibilities for Mary Simons. The most likely is born right in Shillington in 1807 to Leonard & Mary. You should be able to confirm this as correct from either Shillington PRs of 1826 marriage or by her age and birthplace in 1851 census. You look to be on the right track. I hope you've passed on your thought regarding Simons / Lemons to the other submitters at Rootsweb and Ancestry. Peter in Sydney
