I have also just joined this list! I am researching several Maulden families, particularly the BROWN family. Also the HARRIS, SHARP, THICKPENNY, ROBINSON & NORTHWOOD families. We are coming to UK in Sep & I intend visiting Maulden. My gg grandparents were Daniel BROWN & Hannah ROBINSON who emigrated to Australia & then later to New Zealand in 1856. Daniel's sister, Sophia BROWN married George NORTHWOOD IN 1850. After Sophia died in 1864 he married her sister, Ann BROWN. I would be interested in making contact with someone who currently lives in Maulden or the surrounding area & has local history knowledge. Jane, As said earlier, you can find loads of discussions on many of those families in the Bedford List Archives. But the surnames are so plentiful, that it may be easier to concentrate on specific lines. George Northwood appears in a Family Tree at Rootsweb that gets back to William Northwood & Alice Edwyns who married 1735. Check the tree issued by Warren Loxley (wazzalox). His data is probably the most up to date and his research work is exceptional. The same tree has over 300 Sharp names going back to around 1500ad. Like many other who have replied I have distant links to both surnames. So too would a large proportion of the population of Bedfordshire and beyond. Peter
