Barbara, Others on the list will have better knowledge of history, but it's my understanding that John Bunyan and a lot of early pilgrims to America came from Bedfordshire. A little research should find plenty of clues. Another approach would be to search the list archives for Cooke posts. I found quite a few entries for Cooke families from Eaton Bray on submitted trees at Rootsweb. Find one of interest and email the submitter. There's probably even more submitted trees on Ancestry.
