Hi Jo, If it is no trouble I would appreciate a photo from the Pozieres Memorial on Panel 78 - 79, apparently on the Right hand side from the main gate over half way along towards the Cross? It is for William John Musgrave ROSS, my grandmother's cousin. He was born in Newport, Gwent 1896 and there is a newspaper notice on the web from his parents saying he had been reported missing and requesting any information. It says he was Pte. Wm. M. Ross originally joined the lst Mons and was in the first battle of the Somme. After being invalided he returned to France, serving in the Dublin Fusiliers but was transferred to 2nd Batt. Royal Munster Fusiliers, reported missing 21 March 1918. Further info. from CWGC etc. suggests he was killed 22 March 1918 of 2nd Bn. Royal Munster Fusiliers, 18148, Private and has no known grave, commemorated on the above Memorial and also at St. John the Baptist Church, presumably around Newport, and there is a photo of this church memorial on the web, so it would be nice to also have a photo of his name on the Panel at Pozieres to accompany it in my records for the Ross family. By Googling, although the articles on the Memorial do not mention the Royal Munster Fusiliers, there seem to be at least one other member (Irish) also commemorated on this particular panel, presumably killed at the same time as William Ross. Hope the weather is good for your holiday and you have success in finding members of your own family. Best Wishes From Merryl Wells of Luton, Beds. E-Mail: merryl.wells@one-name.org GOONS Mem.
