The parish registers up to 1875 of all five Bedford parishes (Sts Peter, Paul and Mary, plus John and Cuthbert), have been extracted onto the IGI at www.familysearch.org, as have virtually all Beds parishes pre 1813. One of the witnesses to the marriage in 1809 was William Green. She was buried at St George Camberwell, Surrey on 18 Feb 1855 age 64 (abode Walworth) so 1790 looks right. But there's no obvious baptism in Bedford. Any idea which church? Likely churches are St Paul's, St Peter's, Holy Cross. Neither St Martin's nor St Andrew's had been built by then. Pam, I use Hugh Wallis search web-page (see link below) for searching the IGI Batch Numbers - the web-site gives details about these http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm As you can image there are several parishes in Bedford town so you will need to look at each one in turn. Good luck. Regards Kevin (England) On 7 February 2010 14:12, Pam Sim <dunricgeo@doctors.org.uk> wrote: > I understand that most of the Bedford parish registers have been > transcribed. I understand that most of the Bedford parish registers have been transcribed. I would be very grateful if anyone with easy access could look for a baptism of Sarah Green, probably in Bedford itself, circa 1790. She later married John Wheble at St Dunstan in the West in London in 1809. Many thanks for the help guys, I have sent an error report into Ancestry - I just hadn't noticed the big jump in Schedule numbers!! Bill has sent me an image so I can see there were no other STRANGE folk in there, just as in 1851. It would also seem as if Ancestry do not have the missing pages indexed unless they have transcribed Elizabeth Strange as something very odd. I'm afraid it's an Ancestry cock-up as usual. She is on page 11, but Ancestry's images go straight from page 10 to page 17. She can be found on FindMyPast but, as I don't have a sub to that, I can't check the details. I'm pretty certain that she is enumerated as a single person household, however. Steven
I wonder if someone here has a copy of the BFHS Bedford 1851 Census Index for St Paul. Some while back I made a note of one Elizabeth Strange on Piece 1752, Folio 69 but I have examined both of the EDs that include Silver Street (folios 68-70 and 123-124) and failed to find her, as does an Ancestry search! If you find her please do let me know. As a point of interest does anyone know why the ED numbers for St Paul jump from 3b to 3d ... should there be a 3c? Thanks Mike
I have just added to our web site details of another new record that our members have transcribed - School Admission Records. Click on Research and you will see the link to School Registers under Articles and Transcriptions. As stated there we will only provide details from the register if: 1. The surname is on the list of over 1000 given on the web page. 2. We are also given first name and approximate date of birth. We will not give surname dumps under any circumstances as this data is too recent as is the detailed web page. The registers are now with BLARS and can be requested in the Search Room for personal inspection. -- Best regards Mike Strange Vice Chairman - Biggleswade History Society www.BiggleswadeHistory.org.uk

Hi Mike You seem to have a stray *society* in your first url , the one at the bottom of your post works fine though Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) >I have just added to our web site www.BiggleswadeHistorySociety.org.uk: > <snip> > Best regards > Mike Strange > Vice Chairman - Biggleswade History Society > www.BiggleswadeHistory.org.uk
I have just added to our web site www.BiggleswadeHistorySociety.org.uk: 1. An update of the projects we have completed in recent years (Look in Projects) 2. A transcription of Spong's Directory and Almanac for Biggleswade 1914 which contains details of over 1300 heads of household - includes address and trades. (Look in Research and follow the link to Trade and Resident Directories) This fits in quite nicely with the transcription of 1915 Qualification of Electors and Jurors that was added some while ago. 3. A full list of all the audio recordings we have completed, mainly interviews with Biggleswade townsfolk (Look in archives) If anyone has a document that they would like to see added to our web site please do contact me. Note that we aim to make as much of our material available free of of charge to all researchers to view. Our only sources of income are from membership subscriptions and publications sales so if you would like to help this Registered Charity thrive then that's the way to do it - it's good to share. -- Best regards Mike Strange Vice Chairman - Biggleswade History Society www.BiggleswadeHistory.org.uk

David, Thanks for straightening me out. (How's the weather over there ?) Apologies to Steven. I wasn't trying to be critical. One can only wonder at the logic of LDS, or lack thereof. In some cases I have seen up to a dozen different user submissions for the same person. And if one matches an extracted entry, the extracted entry gets deleted, yet all the erroneous ones remain.
