exactly what I am trying to find out. He was supposedly born in 1818 and his father's name was Richard. He married a Margaret Pickford in 1842 in Middlesex. I would like to know more about Richard and further back, but don't seem to be having any luck. According to family tradition, my great great grandfather was James West, a commercial artist who at one time had a studio in Tavistock Rd in Bedford. I think he died about 1890. Does anyone know how I can find out more about him?
Hi Sharon, See a picture of Dartmouth Chambers, Theobalds Road here, I just uploaded it for you: www.YourTotalEvent.com/dartmouthchambers.jpg Best regards Mike On 14 Feb 2010 , Sharon Mathieson said: That could be possible. When you say Tavistock Rd, Bedford, I wonder if it should be Tavistock Rd, Bedford Square, London. This was/is part of the estates owned by the Dukes of Bedford & the roads & squares are named after their family names & titles. Lord Tavistock is the heir to the Duke. That would fit in to the information about him living in London. Nicci, I forgot to say it was a user submission. But when you have nothing else ??? Glad to help. Peter
Hello Bedford Listers, Edward George PRICE born 21 Jan. 1905 married Winifred V. Dumpleton in 1926 in Luton. He died in Luton in 1988. I would be pleased to hear from anyone researching this family. Brian Elston brian.elston@tesco.net
Nicci or Tony, It was a simple search of IGI. Perhaps you were making it too complicated. Have you found it now? Peter
Ah, from your first post it sounded like you had no information on James WEST as you didn't mention birthplace or year and was unsure when he died If the marriage you mention is the correct one, the following is the family in 1851 & 1861 but I can't find them after that In 1851 39 Upper Park Street Islington James WEST 32 Medieval? Decorator born Clerkenwell Middlesex Ann M WEST 32 St Lukes MDX Margaret A WEST 7 Islington MDX Frank WEST 4 Islington MDX Helen H PICKFORD wifes sister 17 St Lukes MDX Ann PICKERN servant 24 house servant Huntingdon In 1861 at Prospero? Cottage as above less Margaret A plus Sarah Elizabet WEST 9 Islington MDX Mary Harriet WEST 7 Islington MDX Edward WEST 5 Islington MDX Benjamin James WEST 3 Islington MDX Sarah BYRED? serv 19 Bucks Longwick James occupation in 1861 is Writer Printer Illuminator (which would lend weight to a Medieval Decorator in 1851 being correct) Nearest I can find for a baptism is JAMES WEST Christening:1818 Poultry Chapel Camomile Street-Independent, London, London, England Father: RICHARD WEST Family Mother: MARTHA C097671 1702 - 1753 0825328 (RG4 4207) Film 6904065 Film C097671 1781 - 1837 0825328 (RG4 4207) Film 6904065 Film But apart from that no sign of James WEST artist/writer/illuminator in Bedfordshire Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > exactly what I am trying to find out. Hi Sharon?? Trying to join the dots is notoriously fraught with complications and disappointments Can you not make your way back from yourself to this James WEST ? The only James WEST I can see who died around 1890 in Bedfordshire is one born 1823 approx and he appears to be an Ag Lab Checking the census there are a few James WESTs in Bedfordshire over the years but found to be anything like an artist No connection found between a James WEST and a Tavistock Road or Street at any time If you can prove the line and find out where he was born married and died you may have better luck Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > According to family tradition, my great great grandfather was James West, > a > commercial artist who at one time had a studio in Tavistock Rd in Bedford. > I > think he died about 1890. Hi Peter, Where did you find that one? I have been searching for ages for it. Hi Listers, Can sks please decipher the occupation for Aaron BONNER (born 1831 Harlington, Bedfordshire) in the 1891 Census in Harlington - the reference is: Class: RG12; Piece: 1263; Folio 66; Page 2 I can work out that he is a Baker its the next bit I am having trouble reading. Aaron is my wife's Great Grand-uncle - so would also love to hear from anybody that has a connection to him. Thanks in advance. Kevin (England)
Hi, It reads Baker and Allottment Holder. Regards JohnH.
