Hi Listers, I am trying to find a possible connection with my PAYNE family and information I have recently received. My 3rd GGfather George was born about 1814 in Eaton Socon he married Elizabeth TOWNSEND and had 4 Children. I believe that his father is John who married Sarah BALDOCK in 1807. I am not sure when John was born but I have been given some information that suggests he may have been born about 1768 or 1769 and his parents are John and Mary WITHE. Hi Bendish is a small hamlet in the parish of St Pauls Walden in Hertfordshire. There is also a Barton Bendish in Norfolk. Would there be anyone on this list that can trace their Cooke famly back to the late 1700's at Eaton Brae? During the late1700's a Joseph, Thomas or William Cooke (and maybe others) sailed across the pond to early Nova Scotia and New England. I need to find the link between the two countries. A male cousin donated his DNA to FamilyTreeDNA.com and in the Cook family section of that webpage we are identified along with Mayflower descendants and early Virginia descendant Mordecai Cooke. This DNA result for our ancestor Richard Cooke B1810, can be seen in that Cook group as 'I2b - Lineage 1'. I am hoping to find some other Bedfordshire Cooke family whose DNA may match ours. There is no record under that surname/ initial on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site as far as I can see. There was a HENRY BURTHAN VAILE husband of Emily Florence Vaile killed in 1944 . There is one Laurence Edward Stuart VAILE of the Royal Flying Corps who died in 1917 but he is buried at Narborough (All Saints churchyard) presumably England. Son of Jeannette & the late Arthur Vaile. If he was shot down in France he may have been buried by locals in their vilage churchyard so I think you would need more than 2 days to research! Barbara, Here's the site for Commonwealth War Graves http://www.cwgc.org/debt_of_honour.asp?menuid=14 But there is no record of Alexander Vaile. I'd check your facts. It could be a brother who died. An Alexander Vaile #1651 served in RFC in WWI but medal cards seem to indicate he received medals in 1920. Free BMD has only one Alexander Vaile b1890 in Fulham, who marries Teresa Evans in 1917 at Paddington and has a son Alexander F in Sept 1919, which is after the war ended. Peter in Sydney

John, His marriage is there but the rest of the entries are user submissions. There are no baptism entries for Gabriel Blake anywhere in England in that timeframe and there are no Blake's in Toddington baptism records. I also had a look at Bedfordshire Poll Books 1722 and 1784 but nothing there either. I can only sugget you might try Bedford and Luton Archives. Peter

On Saturday May 8, Michael Gandy will talk about TRACING YOUR HUGUENOT ANCESTORS -or were they just French? These are attrractive ancestoirs to have, hard working, creative, no strange religious complications. But were they really Huguenot, or later French emigres? Or indeed, just some odd Anglo-Saxon surname which happened to begin the De? Michael Gandy is the expert, and a very entertaining one too. Talk at 3pm For an hour from 2pm, you can make use of a wide ranbge of research material - books, fichesd, CDs - for East Anglia (where many opf the Huguenots settled as weavers). Not only Essex, Suffolk amd Norfolk, but, for good measure, Cambridge and Huntingdon, including a number of parish registers and censuses/ Also demonstration of using Family Historian progam at 2.20pm. Venue is the Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School, Oxford Rd (A418), Aylesbury.
