The only additional detail in the transcript is that both were otp. You'd need to check the microfilm to get the witnesses. There are two burials of Ann Turney in Ridgmont - 10 Aug 1753, a few days after the baptism (although the extracted entry doesn't give a date in August, it's just the member submissions that give a date of the 6th), and 9 Dec 1757. Again you'd need to check the register to see if either of these was named as the daughter of Joseph & Mary, which would then eliminate her from being the Mary who married John Brown in 1787. There's a burial of Ann Brown aged 47 on 15 Oct 1814 at Husborne Crawley which might be her David There's an Ann Brown On Thu, Jun 17, 2010 at 5:47 AM, Peter Booth <pbo08596@bigpond.net.au>wrote: > Sarah, > > Here are the IGI batches for Husborne Crawley from the Hugh Wallis site. > Just Google "Hugh Wallis" > > Husborne Crawley > C035651 1558-1812 E035651 > C035653 1813-1868 > 1813-1875 M035651 1558-1709 > C035654 1813-1875 M035652 1710-1812 > M035653 1813-1838 > 1813-1885 > M035654 1813-1885 > > > There are a number of Turney BDM events. Hello again, Roger, It would probably have helped you - and to a greater extent "Us Out Here" - had you given us at the start a lot more details of what you clearly knew, and were actually seeking, rather than the family details that you don't know. Probably the most helpful of all would've been details of the Obituary so that we'd be able to see it, and then possibly have something fairly solid to work from. Granted that we now know that you'd seem to be seeking his descendants (who would seem to be restricted to the offspring - if any - of his 3 Unknown Children) - for I strongly doubt that he was likely to've known much about his CAPEWELL ancestors or relatives - or if they'd've known very much about him... Donald was an only child, and didn't know his father - who'd died when he was less than 18 months old - and whose mother remarried when he was just 6 and removed to Essex. Donald Frederick's birth was registered in Cambridge District in 1889 Mar Q - the one and only Donald CAPEWELL birth in England & Wales 1837-1915, as well as being the sole Donald in England & Wales in the 1891 and 1901 Censuses. Other than his death, these would appear to be the only times he appears in England or Wales - other, perhaps, than the 1911 Census. His father was Frederick Charles CAPEWELL, who'd appear to've been born in India around 1866 - as was his apparent 2-years-older brother Edmund J [from 1881 Census] - and whose death was registered in Cambridge District 1890 Mar Q, aged 24. He'd married in that same District in 1888 Jun Q. [This marriage cert should give his father's name, which might help in tracing his line further back.] The likelihood is that his father was in the Army in India - so it's possible that either Edmund or Fred's births are in one of the GRO's "Miscellaneous Indexes" - either the Army Chaplains Birth Indices 1796-1880,or (rather less lilely) in the Consular Birth Indices 1860-65 or 1866-70. His mother, Lydia Maria [at birth; Marie at her 1st marriage; just 'Lydia' at her 2nd] IMPSON, was born in Norwich District in 1863 Dec Q - and remarried in Cambridge District in 1895 Jun Q Walter SEARLE, a man some 8 years her junior. By 1901 they, with Donald and 3 young SEARLEs aged between 4 and 11mos, were in Rickling, ESS, where Walter was employed as a shepherd. But to return to Donald, Maria, and their family. From a combination of your initial enquiry and your reply below, it would *appear* that - apart from Catharine's birth and death - about all you know was taken from the obituary. The lack of names for 3 of their children tends me to the belief that they may well not have followed their parents' calling, while the bald date of '1917' would seem to indicate that you've not found their marriage - either date or place. About all that can be said with any degree of confidence is that - with the possible exception below - even if "they lived in many places in the U.K.", then none of those were in England and Wales during the period in which their children were born. The possible exception being the William F whose birth in Stoke on Trent District - at "about the right sort of time" and to a mother of the "right" maiden name. CAPEWELL is not one of the more-frequently-occurring surnames, and the coincidences seem to be too high to be dismissed out-of-hand. But, of course, coincidences *DO* occur all-too-frequently in FamHist - and I have to add that the death of a William Frederick CAPEWELL, born on 3 Mar 1916 *was* registered in Stoke District in 1970 Sep Q... But might Donald & Maria have been - equally coincidentally - posted to Stoke before their Dundee posting? And the reported date of their marriage wrong? There again, might Maria be - say - the sister of William's mother? There's only one way to find out For Sure..... Other possible sources that might give a clue to at least the names of the 3 Mystery Children are: 1) Wills - of Donald, Maria, and Catherine. Have you found them? 2) A possible alternative source of an obituary would be the Salvation Army's Newspaper "The War Cry" - which I recall buying on Friday Nights in the pub in the 60s and early 70s. But, broadly, other than these, you'd seem largely to be wasting your time looking in England - at least until you know the names and birth-dates of the 3 Unknowns. Gus Hello Gus and Peter, Many thanks for your messages and help. Donald Frederick CAPEWELL and Maria WALKER were married in 1917 and their daughter Catherine was born on the 26th of May 1921 at Dundee, Scotland. Because of Catherine's parents (Donald Frederick & Maria) vocation with the Salvation Army it appears that they lived in many places in the U.K. and I presume that this was the reason for the family being in Dundee. Donald Frederick died at Kempston, Bedford in 1962 and Maria Died in 1976 also at Kempston. At the time that Donald died he was a Salvation Army Brigadier. Fortunately I have found an obituary for Donald on Ancestry. Peter was quite right in suggesting that I hope to be able to contact with living relatives of Donald and Maria Capewell. I know that it is a little unusual and I hope that I have not mislead anyone but I am trying to locate any living Capewell relatives of Donald Frederick Capewell & Maria in the hope that they might like to have the Capewell family history information that I and other family members hold. Our combined Capewell information goes back to circa 1630. Thank you Gus for the Staffordshire Capewell/Walker information but my relatives forenames were definitely Donald Frederick. I sincerely hope that none of the three unknown children of Donald and Maria (info via Ancestry) were born in Staffordshire as that is were our Capewell family were resident from the early 17th century and there are literally hundreds and hundreds of Capewell's in that county. Worry not, Bedfordshire is almost Capewell free! <grin> Best wishes from Roger ------------------------------------------------ Peter wrote:- Roger, You'll have to help us. Hi everyone, I'm new to the list and I'm interested in the Turney family from Husborne Crawley esp. Ann Turney who married John Brown on 29 March 1787 in Husborne Crawley. I was wondering if anyone else was researching this family? I believe the parish registers go back to the 1500s. Would be great to hear from someone with a link. Many thanks and best wishes, Sarah.

Hello, I am new to the Bedford list and wondered if any of the list members has any connection to the following people. (Please forgive me if you have read this request on the Buckinghamshire list). Donald Frederick CAPEWELL (1889-1962) and his wife Maria (nee) WALKER (1889 - 1976) As I understand it Donald and Maria were both senior members of the Salvation Army and had four children, CATHERINE CAPEWELL (1921 - 1988) + two unknown sons and one unknown daughter. I have a good deal of information concerning Donald Capewell's ancestors and I would be happy to share this with anyone who is related to Donald. Best wishes from Roger Capewell
Hello Robyn Well -if we're going to a cemetery ourselves -it's not a big deal to find other graves or memorials in the same place. I will be able to do the Villers Brettoneux ones -the others are Belgium -we went there last year and maybe will go back another time. Glad to be able to help. Hi Jo, If it is no trouble I would appreciate a photo from the Pozieres Memorial on Panel 78 - 79, apparently on the Right hand side from the main gate over half way along towards the Cross? It is for William John Musgrave ROSS, my grandmother's cousin. He was born in Newport, Gwent 1896 and there is a newspaper notice on the web from his parents saying he had been reported missing and requesting any information. It says he was Pte. Wm. M. Ross originally joined the lst Mons and was in the first battle of the Somme. After being invalided he returned to France, serving in the Dublin Fusiliers but was transferred to 2nd Batt. Royal Munster Fusiliers, reported missing 21 March 1918. Further info. from CWGC etc. suggests he was killed 22 March 1918 of 2nd Bn. Royal Munster Fusiliers, 18148, Private and has no known grave, commemorated on the above Memorial and also at St. John the Baptist Church, presumably around Newport, and there is a photo of this church memorial on the web, so it would be nice to also have a photo of his name on the Panel at Pozieres to accompany it in my records for the Ross family. By Googling, although the articles on the Memorial do not mention the Royal Munster Fusiliers, there seem to be at least one other member (Irish) also commemorated on this particular panel, presumably killed at the same time as William Ross. Hope the weather is good for your holiday and you have success in finding members of your own family. Best Wishes From Merryl Wells of Luton, Beds. E-Mail: merryl.wells@one-name.org GOONS Mem.
