    1. Arthur - Sent alone to Australia as 4yr old
    2. Peter Booth
    3. Audrey, I doubt that Arthur would travel alone as a 4yr old. More likely has was part of a group of children from an orphanage or was sent out for adoption. I would look for information from places like Dr.Barnardos. Unfortunately, Alice didn't give a web address for NSW Families. This site is for adoptions and the like. But you would need the equivalent site for Victoria, as that is where you said he was sent. I didn't see any young children named Arthur arriving around 1881 on the Victorian Immigrant list. Odf course it is possible that he disembarked at another port and travelled overland to Melbourne. Something concrete for a date and location would help. You may also like to check for Australian War Records. By my reckoning he would be around 38 in 1914, which would normally be a bit old for enlistment. Do you know, for example, if he enlisted in the AIF in Australia or returned to UK and joined a British Division. Was he Army, Navy or Air Force? Infantry, Engineers, Supply, Tank Battalion etc?. All are clues. Peter in Sydney

    3. Hi, I am stumped by Rachel Peart born approx 1778 in the Houghton Regis area This is the info I have : 1807 14 Oct John Crips of Tilsworth married Rachel Peart Hockliffe 1851 census High Street, Houghton Regis Rachel Cripps 72 nurse Houghton Regis 1861 census Grocer’s shop, High St, Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire Rachel Cripps mother wid 84 Houghton Regis I can find only 3 instances of Peart on the IGI (I think coverage of Bedford is quite comprehensive ?) at the time, in Toddington. I think also Peart may be a version of Parrot which appears to be common in the area. I can't find any Rachel born in the area at the time on the IGI. So - what is her real name and where and when was she born. She may be born later - ages may be a bit vague in the censu returns - if true then she would have been in her late 20's when she got married. Any help appreciated. 3. Hi Try this link: http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=23 You can search this list for names of passengers who boarded ships to Victoria, Australia from overseas ports (including New Zealand) between 1852 and 1923. These passengers were 'unassisted', meaning that their passage was not subsidised by government. BVRI2 is the second edition of the British Vital Records Index, available on CD from the LDS. It's an extension to the IGI and contains a lot of parish register entries (births and marriages only). Some of these records are now in the on-line IGI, although we were told they wouldn't be when the BVRI was first issued. Coverage is patchy, but, in general, if an area is well-represented in the IGI, it's also well-represented on the BVRI. (If the LDS weren't allowed to film the registers, as, for example, in Northamptonshire, there's not much anyone can do.) It's an extremely useful set if it has what you want, but some purchasers have been very disappointed. However, I can still not locate a 2nd Marriage for William King to Elizabeth (Now thought to be Dyer). Was again hoping that, with these latest clues, someone with previous knowledge or access to alternative documents (1841 Census perhaps ?) could help link Sarah and Elizabeth as successive spouses to William. 3. Hi All, Many thanks for all of you previous responses, both on list and direct. Priceless help to a novice at the game. In a previous posting, I wrote: >My Maternal GT GT Grandfather is William King (b Totternhoe 1833, m Martha Hutchin(g)s 4 Jun 1852). >William & Martha's marriage cert cites William's father as another "William King". There are a number of possibilities, but the best match comes from the IGI which >gives the line as (in Outline below). >1851 Census does not show William and Sarah, (OK Perhaps passed on by then), but Does show the family of a "William and Elizabeth King", where the dates of >Father William and sons James and William too close to the aforementioned IGI for coincidence/comfort (And incidentally show additional daughters (Mary 1841 and >surprise, surprise Sarah 1844, am awaiting the arrival of birth certs for these two to confirm mother (I hope!))). >Have scoured the online records I have access to , and can find no record of a (matching) death for Sarah (nee Billington ?) or 2nd marriage for William (snr) to >Elizabeth. I now Have Birth Certificates for Mary (b 13 Jun 1840) and Sarah (b 22 (or 27 writing a bit unclear) Sep 1843, Showing parents as William and Elizabeth (nee Dyer), both born in Totternhoe. I have also tracked a death certificate in the name of "A" Sarah King, on 15 Jun 1838, again in Totternhoe. Informed by an Elizabeth Arnold (Present at Death), which although not conclusive, fits the time line. However, I can still not locate a 2nd Marriage for William King to Elizabeth (Now thought to be Dyer). 3. Hi Peter I have Ann DENNIS born 10 Jul 1748 married to William FRESHWATER on 12 Sep 1768 at Blunham. You wouldnt find her baptised at Blunham since she was born at Ampthill, daughter of Samuel DENNIS b.24 Jun 1716 and Elizabeth PAGE b.1715, both at Ampthill, and married at ampthill 12 Feb 1737. Four siblings as far as I know at the moment, Mary 1738, Thomas 1744, John 1750 and Sarah 1752. I would be interested in any information you have on her descendants as I havent found any of them yet. I believe that one of my gggg grandmothers was an Ann DENNIS who married William FRESHWATER (1747-1797) by licence on 12 September 1768 in Blumham. She was buried in Great Barford on 2 March 1786. Have you any information that might help me? I can find no record of an Ann DENNIS being baptised in Blunham in the 1730s or 1740s. Or, could she have been the widow of Henry DENNIS by whom she had already had seven children in the 1740s and 1750s, concluding with Rachel in 1761. However, I cannot find any record of Henry's death or burial in Blunham either. Ann DENNIS and William FRESHWATER had seven children, of whom only two appear to have survived infancy, which in itself might be a pointer towards an older mother. I should be most grateful for any information that anyone might have on this, or any, Ann DENNIS.
