    1. Can anyone check the Sandy parish registers for me?
    2. Donna Bailey
    3. Hi everyone, I have John DASH bpt.1 May 1768 in Sandy, the illegitimate child of Elizabeth DASH. I have been trying to find Elizabeth, but to no avail. I was thinking she may have been the child of Richard and Ann DASH who had children in Sandy in the 1720's but there doesn't appear to be a baptism for her. Would anyone be able to check the registers for me to see if there is any mention of her not being from Sandy? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time, Donna

    3. Hi Donna Sandy Baptisms 1736 May 29 Eliz. illeg. d of Mich Eyres & Ann Dash Could this be your Elizabeth? Illegitimates often kept their mothers' surnames. She would be 32 in 1768. There is nothing on the entry for John's baptism to indicate that Elizabeth came from outwith the parish of Sandy. No mention of John's father, either. Hope this helps. 3. Hi Listers I am trying to trace descendants of children of Emmanuel and Sarah Dear nee Wootton. The children are:- Lillian b. Welwyn c. 15/11/1874 Alfred b. Welwyn c. 22/12/1868 Frances b.Clifton c. 11/11/1855 George b.Clifton c.26/7/1857 Eliza b.Clifton c.3/4/1859 Ellen b.Welwyn c.28/6/1868 Alfred b. William, who was born in Welwyn and married Alice Lavinia Harwood, immigratred to Australia in 1910 with his 4 children, Bill, Bert, Edie and Len. William was my grandfather. I would dearly like to be able to trace descendants of these children. Maurie Dear, Melbourne, Australia

    3. I am researching the names ANDREW(S) and ANDERSON in Flamstead, Gt Gaddesden (both Herts) & Luton, Beds 1750-1850. I have several pieces of info which may or may not be connected. In Hertfordshire at least, there is good evidence of the names being interchangeable, with the same people appearing under both names from time to time.. Donald Massey

    2. Maurie It might be worth entering your interest at http://www.missing-you.net/ which is a free service. Also checking marriages at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ against the census index at http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ in order to come up with a daughter's married name? It isn't a perfect answer but may give you a few leads? And it is playing the detective a bit... I would also recommend this site as most of us seemed to lose someone in the First World War: http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/search.aspx There were a lot of DEARs lost in the Great War - but the above site may be something to keep in mind. No doubt other listers will have suggestions to help best wishes cathy

    3. Hi Denise You can buy them already transcribed from the Bedfordshire & Luton Archives and Records Service at www.Bedfordshire.gov.uk/archive in book form, prices ranging from £4.50 to £26, price dependent on size of parish, for example Shillington is £13.50 but Upper Stondon is only £4.50. Postage is from £1.50 for one item, 2 for £2 and so on. 3. Hi Patti Unfortunately Henlow 1624 -30 registers are deficient which is when a vital Benjamin Cooper would have been born (he was buried in 1698 and appears in Hearth Tax records in Henlow) His children mentioned in his will would have been born in the Commonwealth period, and they too fail to make an appearance as births in the parish register. Whilst Benjamin's siblings' descendants can be traced to Clifton and Langford it was via Benjamin that the Henlow Coopers of the 1800s descend. Amazing that the Coopers can be traced for 500 years in the same two villages, Arlesey and Henlow. Not exactly upwardly mobile, although my 10xg grandfather's sister who was on the Mayflower is excluded from this description of them! I have found no connection with the Hexton Coopers, and the Henlow Coopers only appear in Shillington in the 1840s seemingly having no connection with the indigenous Shillington Coopers. Regards David Patricia Salter <ps015p6402@blueyonder.co.uk> a écrit : Hi David That is exactly what I am looking for, am at the moment trawling through looking for all the Coopers, the other links Tilleys and Hursts die out in Henlow shortly after the emigration to the Colonies, although I have Hursts popping up again much later. 1. Staysmore Manor - nursing home? 1960s-?
    2. Mike Kendall
    3. Interested in learning from the list if anyone remembers a place called Staysmore Manor, supposedly a nursing home on High Street in Carlton. My family story goes that it may have already been called that prior to the property being purchased on the name was changed afterward and the place turned into a nursing home. Bought by Reginald R. Smith and wife Ada Betty Smith (and possibly others), probably in the late 1950s. My grandmother Emma Kendall and her sister May Cookson were employed there as Ada was their half-sister. I'm interested in any and all data the list can so kindly provide (web sites, photos, contacts, written files, etc). This quest is based on learning more about Ada Betty Smith, a niece to my grandfather, a former nurse in the Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Nursing Service in WWII who took care of my grandfather, whom I never met, while on his death bed up in Barrow-in-Furness in the mid 1940s. Sincerely, Mike Kendall San Diego, CA USA

We knew that the shower in our bathroom had been leaking but did not realise that there was a hole in the floor and the water brought down the ceiling of the utility room, so for the last fortnight we have had the builders in and have had to sleep in one of the spare bedrooms, we have four altogether, not really conducive to a good nights sleep, don't you get used to your own bed, I now have permanent backache! I did know of the marriage, I thought it was probably written in the notes I attached to the charts I sent, I have the transcripts of Upper and Lower Gravenhurst, Shillington, Ampthill, Clophill and several others of the small parishes surrounding Gravenhurst, I would list them but I have to find the fiche box and EVERYTHING is in chaos! Fortunately they finished yesterday so today we went to see the new Harry Potter movie and then had lunch out, to get away from the mess, tomorrow we have to sort out my mother-in-law for the weekend and then this weekend we shall spend cleaning and clearing everything up, hopefully I shall be able to get back to my life next week!
