Not sure if this topic has been raised before or not ..... Does anyone know just when/how/why MILTON BRYANT became MILTON BRYAN. Surely there must have been a date when the County Council decided to formally adopt MILTON BRYAN as the official village name? Hi Jenny HO107/005-17 Folio 6A Sewell, Houghton Regis Fisher Scroggs 75 farmer Sarah Scroggs 60 William Scroggs 20 all born in county + 2 female and 4 male servants I can't see a burial on the NBI of Fisher/Francis/Scroggs in Houghton Regis in 1843, although the death registration in the June quarter of 1843 would certainly seem to be him. I can't imagine there were too many Fisher Scroggs around! Regards David Jenny & Andy Spruyt <spruytj@paradise.net.nz> a écrit : Hello, I am looking for Sarah SCROGGS (nee' PRATT) who married a Francis SCROGGS or Fischer SCROGGS or Francis Fischer SCROGGS in Totternhoe. I am not 100% sure of his correct name or the above name he may actually have chosen to go by. Sarah SCROGGS was in Houghton Regis in 1851 as shown below and I think her husband died in June 1843. All the couple's three children were born in Houghton Regis I believe between 1802 and 1808. 1851 Census Houghton Regis Sarah Scroggs head widow 71 years Farmer of 240 acres employing 11 labourers David Bandy 12 yrs George Blaney 20 William Evans 19 I wonder if some one could possibly please help with this family. Does anyone have the christian names Florence Kate in their family trees? I am trying to trace my grandmother who was born in Sussex in 1876 with the surname WICKHAM. She acquired the surname BAKER on marriage and had several children but disappeared in about 1916 supposedly running off with a soldier billetted close to her home in Wimbledon. Whether she subsequently used the surname WICKHAM or BAKER or possibly took the name of the gentleman she thereafter lived with is not known. She had siblings in Sussex but if anyone has a Florence Kate of the appropriate age of whatever surname or location I would be most anxious to make contact. Thankyou Phil Baker

Listing this post again since I don't believe the first one was received. I'm Interested in learning from the list if anyone remembers a place called Stay(e)smore Manor, supposedly a nursing home on High Street in Carlton. My family story goes that it may have already been called that prior to the property being purchased on the name was changed afterward and the place turned into a nursing home. Bought by Reginald R. Smith and wife Ada Betty Smith (and possibly others), probably in the late 1950s. My grandmother Emma Kendall and her sister May Cookson were employed there as Ada was their half-sister. I'm interested in any and all data the list can so kindly provide (web sites, photos, contacts, written files, etc). This quest is based on learning more about Ada Betty Smith, a niece to my grandfather, a former nurse in the Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Nursing Service in WWII who took care of my grandfather, whom I never met, while on his death bed up in Barrow-in-Furness in the mid 1940s. Sincerely, Mike Kendall San Diego, CA USA
