Gamlingay is closer, just across the boarder into Cambridgeshire. Don't forget the parishes of Sutton and Wrestlingworth, much closer to Potton. 3. Hi Heather Questions which must be asked (and hopefully answered ) would help people to search for search for you are: 1. Have you got the birth certificate? That will help to ensure you have the right person, give the names of her parents and an address. 2. Have you checked under Alice? 3. Have you checked under the names of any siblings? 4. Have you checked using the Christian name only, with dob & location? 5. Have you checked whether she married- in 1871 she would have been 20. In 1881 she should have been 30 . Some other info might help you to narrow down her movements eg was she a witness at a sibling's marriage? An informant at the death of a parent? 6. Where was her brother in 1871? If you have the names, DoBs, locations of any other family members it greatly assists others to help you. 3. Heather, what other names of her family members do you? Where her family from the Bedford area originally and is this why you are asking on the Bedfordshire list. Do you have any brothers or sisters names. All this help when searching Ancestry.com as often names are mispelt, ages given wrongly, different places of birth given for every census taken for a particular person. Have been having a hunt about but need that extra information if it is available Warm regards Gay ----- Original Message ----- From: <hgsmith@ntlworld.com> To: <BEDFORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 04, 2006 6:56 AM Subject: [BDF] Randall >I am searching for an Elizabeth Alice Randall born in Pimlico London in >1851. 3. Thanks again David, you have no idea how grateful i am for the effort you have put toward this querry. I have spent a few years trying to unravel this clan. i know the links are in here somewhere, just would like to be able to 'connect a few dots'! Another reason i dont believe David Wells and Martha Stevens is correct is that George Wells and Emma Hilliard did NOT name any of their children with any combination of names David or Martha......they are: Jonah Henry Wells b ca 1862 Shefford, Susannah Wells b ca 1864 Shefford, William Wells b ca 1867 Sandy, Anna Emma b ca 1870 Sandy, James Wells b ca 1870 Sandy, but his 1901 Census states b Barrow in Furman! (believe anna and james are twins), Emma Wells christened 13Jun1872 Sandy, (believe Anna Emma and Emma are one in the same, but did not find Twin James Christened, nor is he listed with the family in the 1871 census, but is listed 1891) John Wells b ca 1875 Darleston...there is a Darleston in Staffordshire), Sidney Wells b JunQ1877 Biggleswade, Nellie Wells b ca 1879 Biggleswade, and Harry Wells b SepQ1880 Barrow in Furness. son James was my great grandfather, he m Susan Hickey DecQ 1896 in Kent, District of Thanet. Emma (Hilliard) Wells d between 1881 and 1891 census. most probably in Barrow in Furness, as her youngest son Harry was b in Barrow 1880. Haven't been able to nail that down for sure as yet, none of the ages for any Emma Wells in the BMD come even close enough to consider. 1891 Census finds George married to Sarah, living in Hackney, County of London with 4 of his children: John, age 16, b Beds, Okes (not darleston as above), Sidney age 14 b Biggleswade, Nelly age 12 b Biggleswade, and Harry age 12 b Barrow in Furness. Martha (Stevens) Wells, widow, 1881 and 1891 census show her grandson William Henry Wells living with her, he b ca 1874. David Wells and Elizabeth.....the ages of their children do not match up. their son james b ca 1856, my James b ca 1870. being in the USA, not easy to order a marriage or birth cert from the UK, will order the microfilm from the LDS center and see what i can find. As of 1Jan2006, they have raised the prices, it is now $5.50USD per film! up from 3.25USD. quite a jump. thanks again for all you have done, it is very much appreciated sandee
