Hi I watched who do you think you are on tv last night and was amazed at the way a family moved up north. Basically if you were poor then a company would "recruit" you and your family, send you to london then on a barge to eg a cotton mill in lancs. Often the younger children would be left behind as they were too young to work in the mills and so the mill owners wouldnt recruit the family. The programme was about Suffolk but I wondered if this would have happened in Beds as my family moved from Beds- Stotfold- to Leeds after having been in Stotfold for generations. It certainly makes you realise how tough ag labs must have had it for the sweatshops of Leeds etc to be a welcome proposition! I welcome any thoughts. carol
That is Moggerhanger or Mogerhanger. ----- Original Message ----- From: CHRISTOPHER ADAMS To: BEDFORD-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, January 12, 2006 2:44 PM Subject: [BDF] BIGGS FAMILY . MUGGERHANGER. Hi, I am new to the list. I am trying to trace the following BIGGS family who would have been resident in Muggerhanger, Beds, some time between 1830 and 1850. Richard John BIGGS, Born Marylebone,1810. Ruth BIGGS (Nee COOK?) Born in Muggerhanger 1809. Ann BIGGS, Born Muggerhanger, 1834 George BIGGS, Born Muggerhanger 1840. There may have been a third child Emma, born Muggerhanger, 1837. By 1851, the family are living in East, London. If anyone has any info, particularly details from 1841, Census it would be really appreciated. Many thanks and regards Chris Adams (MR). NB I believe this area of Bedford may also have been spelt Moggerhanger or Mogerhanger. ==== BEDFORD Mailing List ==== For any updates our info about the status of this list go to http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com
And I also have a PEDDER connection! My gt-gt-grandmother was Ann PEDDER, the illegitimate (and AFAIK only) daughter of Sarah PEDDER. Ann's father was John ARMSDEN, who, a few years after Ann was born, married someone else and had a family with her. According to the census, Sarah was born about 1808 in Westoning. Ann was baptised on 9th July 1837, also in Westoning. Can you connect to these two PEDDERs? Thanks, Sarah
Hi Peter, My 5xgt-grandmother was Martha SINFIELD, who married Thomas BUNKER in Millbrook in 1761. I know nothing further of her, as I have done little research on that branch. Does she connect in any way to the research you have done? Thanks, Sarah
Listers, Maulden batches are full of SINFIELD records but I can't seem to find anyone who has done a comprehensive anaylsis of the various families. I have just extracted a small sample of 60 or so records over five SINFIELD families, while researching William Sinfield b1825 who married into a side branch of my ADAMS family of Maulden. I'm happy to summarise and pass on the data to anyone who may have interests in this surname. Peter in Sydney

Listers, Can anyone identify or give me a precise location of Floaters Hall, Maulden which was the residence of my GGG grandfather William Adams and his second wife Sarah Upton in 1841. His first wife, Lucy Sharpe had died in 1834. Peter in Sydney
David If you go to the following link at Bedfordshire and Luton Archives it may help. http://www.bedfordshire.gov.uk/archive There is a section Genealogical Resources : Register of Electors that should point you in the right direction. I have been able to obtain copies of the Registers for Flitwick covering other years for the early part of last century and am sure the Record Office will be able to help if there is information for 1912. From what I understand there are registers from 1834 onwards Richard Webb ----- Original Message ----- From: "D&M Goodwin" <famhist@thegoodwins.fastmail.fm> To: <BEDFORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 06, 2006 8:14 AM Subject: [BDF] Electoral Registers > > Hi everyone, > > I wonder if anyone could tell me whether there might be an Electoral > Register for Flitwick circa 1912 ? > > My reason for asking is that my mother's birth certificate (1912) shows > her place of birth as Windmill Road, Flitwick but does not give a house > number. > > Many thanks, > David > > > ==== BEDFORD Mailing List ==== > Bedfordshire at Rootsweb > http://www.rootsweb.com/~engbdf/

Hi Everyone, I am researching a WILLIAM MATLEY. His wife was SOPHIA PARKINS and they married 10 August 1846 at St Mary`s P.C. at Eynesbury. They lived in Manchester and Warwickshire after the marriage. I am trying to find out if WILLIAM is the brother of my Gt Grandmother, ANN BACON (MATLEY) as he was living with her and her husband in 1861 as a lodger. His wife was on her own with the children in 1861 but they were together in 1851 and again in the later census`. I wondererd if anyone had access to the marriages in the parish records and could tell me if they showed more details about WILLIAM . It would be great to know his fathers name and where he was living. I`m hoping that info on WILLIAM would help me to find my Gt Grandmother`s parents etc Anything would be great. Thanks for any help Cheers Audrey a.may@ozemail.com.au
