    1. Re: [BDF] I need a geography lesson
    2. Hello everybody The previous reply is absolutely correct but perhaps I can add a little more if I may. Crawley Green Road in Luton (Beds) leads up to and over the Beds/Herts border to a place called Cockernhoe. This is linked to Mangrove and close to Tea Green. All of these places are in Hertfordshire and, depending on when and where the records were made, people from this area will be shown as coming from either Lilley or Offley in Hertfordshire with their registration district being Hitchin. I am also not sure as to where Crawley Green itself actually is/or was. Would need investigation as to which side of the border it sat. The current Crawley Green School etc is part of a modern development and I think must fall with the Borough of Luton. Harpenden is 5/6 miles away and, by modern road layouts, would seem to be somewhat out the way. However there are lanes etc leading form the general area of Harpenden in the direction of Luton Hoo and where Luton Airport now sits which, I surmise without any real facts to back me up, would make it very reachable by horse & cart etc. Hope this helps Paul

    3. Hi, Lilley is right on the Beds/Herts border and as far as I know there is only one. There is a Crawley Green Road in Luton, on the south side near the airport. It had not occurred to me before that there should therefore be a place called 'Crawley Green' but I haven't heard of it. btw there is a school in Crawley Green Road which is called 'Crawley Green Infants'. Always makes me smile to myself, sad person that I am ! I have found a marriage on the IGI for a Thomas Summerfield and Martha Day in Lilley, Herts in 1796. I have found a birth of a Martha Day in Harpenden, Herts in 1773. Can someone tell me where Crawley Green is? Is it close to Harpenden and did the borders change? I would like to establish if this is "my" Martha. Thanks for any help and best wishes Mary Lou on Vancouver Island

Maybe she was Welsh??? I don't know for sure, but the Greek Goddess Athene is sometimes called Pallas Athene, and sometimes just Pallas. So maybe Neith is another name for the same or a similar Goddess - it sounds Egyptian to me. I'm currently reading 'The Histories' of Herodotus, a Greek writer from around 300 BC, and in the section about Egypt, he often gives the equivalent Greek names for Egyptian gods, e.g. he equates Isis with Demeter. Not sure sure that whoever named their daughter Asenath would have done so had they thought of the name as pertaining to a 'heathen' deity. :-) Lila. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * An Fhirinne in aghaidh an tSaoil - The Truth Against the World

    3. Have you checked the IGI on www.familysearch.org, where virtually all of Beds pre 1812 has been extracted? You will find a James baptised in 1784 in Clifton who may be the one you are looking for. The parish register transcript adds nothing more to what's on the IGI Regards David Suzanne Compton <suzanne@ot2.co.uk> a écrit : Please could someone have a look at Clifton parish records for a James Albon. I'm not sure when he was born. I searched the Arlesey Parish records and found an entry saying that James Albon born Clifton married Elizabeth Oliver from Arlesey 13th Feb 1804 which sounds about right considering he had a son John who was born 1814. If you could let me know when he was born and his parents.
