Hi Gail, Have looked on the Bedfordshire Prime (list of names on parish registers) and there are no Pleasances in Bedfordshire records. There are Pleasantines and similar names in Potton, but not Pleasance. Gail, what does it say as her birthplace on the 1841, 1851, 1861, etc censuses? Her Pleasance given name may be a clue to an ancestors name too. D. Hi Gail, Looked on Potton parish registers, but couldn't see your Louisa's baptism. The only one around that time with a father called John was a Lucy, baptised 1806. All the other Carter baptisms for that time had a father William. If her mother "went home to mum" to have the baby, she would probably have been baptised there. I am hoping to find out more about the above lady who is one of my ancestors. I know that she married in 1825 at St Botolph Cambridge to John Richardson who was a butcher. The marriage record shows that her father was John Carter, a tailor. That is all I know of her history. I think I have found everything I can re her life after the marriage. Whether she spent her early life in Potton or not I do not know so I'm hoping that the name and place may ring a bell with someone on the list. Thanks in advance if anyone can help. Best wishes from Gail.
Hi List, Having returned to the Bedford list hoping to get somewhere on the following line, I am looking for the marriage of THOMAS HILLSDON and ELIZABETH the parents of a JOHN HILLSDON baptised 9 April 1738 at Chalgrave. JOHN HILLSDON married ELIZABETH NICHOLLS in Dunstable in 1765 and both are buried there. Anything else on this couple would be wonderful. Thanks for any help. Daphne New Zealand

Hello All, I just wondered if anyone has access to records for Ampthill, and might be able to look up details of the birth of Richard UPTON, who was born there about 1800, particularly his parents, and I would also love to know if he had siblings? I think he moved away from Bedfordshire as a young man, as he was married in Middlesex, and later lived in Hackney. ^5 David, et al... I think I'm tending towards agreeing with you on the "Biggleswade theory". The censuses do seem to be pretty consistent with respect to DOB. The IGI only gives a Christening date for William (26 Nov 1786 btw)and not a birth date, so a late baptism is possible, but judging by the information on the siblings, mum and dad seem to have been pretty prompt, so not a strong possibility. The search continues...... Thanks to all for your responses so far. Jerry -----Original Message----- From: David [mailto:david11000carca@yahoo.fr] Sent: 11 May 2006 18:29 To: BEDFORD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [BDF] RE: Old Warden...Beds or Herts ? Hi Jerry There are no Hides in Old Warden at that period per the PR transcript, and I'm afraid I don't buy the Biggleswade William theory. The ages of 60 and 71 in the censuses both point to 1780+/-. There was also a William Hide buried in Biggleswade in 1792 but there's no age quoted so reference to the PR would be necessary to see if there are any further details eg son of Richard and Elizabeth. What puzzles me is the Herts county birthplace in 1851 and Not born in Beds in 1841. What if...Herts is correct and Old Warden is a misenumeration? Could it conceivably have been Kings Walden for example - was there part of the parish that was known as Old Walden? (I don't know Herts). Kings Walden has the advantage of being much closer to Houghton Regis than Old Warden. The problem is that whilst Kings Walden has been extracted onto the IGI there's no William Hide! But it's an alternative hypothesis. Regards David Sandford Jeremy-jsandfo1 <Jerry.Sandford@motorola.com> a écrit : Hi listers all... Am trying to trace the parentage of one "William Hide", Spouse of Elizabeth Newman, who married 12 Apr 1803 in Houghton Regis. 1851 census cites William as being born abt 1781 in "Old Warden, Herts".....With 1841 stating residence in Houghton and born "Out of County". However, the closest IGI match I can find for him is a Christening in "Biggleswade, Beds" in 1786...being the seventh child of Richard Hide and Elizabeth Chamberlain. Now from my days at RAF Henlow in the 70's, I recall Old Warden and Biggleswade being fairly Adjacent, but is Old Warden actually (or was it at the time) Beds or Herts ??. And would Old Warden events have been recorded at Biggleswade ? If anyone has access to records or perhaps personal links that could confirm or rule out my hypothesis, would love to hear from you.
