    3. Virtually all of Beds pre 1812 is on the IGI. There's a marriage at Caddington on 12 June 1790 between Thomas Hooker and Sarah Pales and another on 11 Oct 1799 with Jane Kenney. If you search the IGI just putting in parents Thomas Hooker and Sarah you get a list of all children. There's a gap after 1787 until the christening of Fanny on 6 Feb 1791. The Susan you mentioned in 1799 is shown as parents Samuel and Sarah. There's a burial of a Thomas Hooker in Caddington on 23 July 1798, but I can't tell which one this was. You'll need reference to the parish register to see if there was any more detail. I was half expecting to find a burial of either a Sarah or a Thomas after 1791, but there's nothing, and no Sarah's preceding that date. 3. Caddington is an odd parish, partly in Beds, but also part in Herts. Whilst Caddington PR has been extracted onto the IGI there's nothing showing anywhere in Beds for Thomas, so you also need to check Herts. There's a marriage in Flamstead (a couple of miles from Caddington) on 22 Sept 1760 between Thomas Hooker and Sarah Kilby, which looks just about right for a first child baptised in Dec 1760. 3. Hi Josie, *IF* all the dates you quote are correct, then I suspect you have two generations of of "Thomas HOOKER and Sarahs" here - or that Thomas married twice, and to a Sarah each time... 39 years of continuous child-bearing seems over-long - even if she started as early as the this-week-reported 11-year-old. (Unless, of course, he was son of the vicar, or the local gentry family). Luckily, with a name like that, you can try the IGI with some hope of finding at least a likely one, then checking that there is no other candiate and no other likely marriage for the one found. -- Eve McLaughlin Author of the McLaughlin Guides for family historians Secretary Bucks Genealogical Society

    3. Ivan & Irene, Try the Hugh Wallis site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyBedford.htm#PageTitle It will tell you availability and dates of earliest records for Northill & Southill. Click on each batch number and search for just the ROOK surname. But it looks like you've got the earliest Rook records from those parishes. If you go to Advanced Search at www.familysearch.org and select International genealogical Index (IGI), you can just search for the ROOK surname by putting an asterisk * for given name. This will give every single ROOK record. You can then refine your search using County and blocks of +/-20 years. The earliest ROOK records in Bedfordshire look to be about 1590 in Sutton. Peter

    3. Good advice Peter. The NBI shows Rook burials at about this period in Sutton/Edworth; Sandy, and Langford, which is a bit closer to Clifton. Alexander was my 7th and 8th xg grandfather on either side of my family so I am doubly interested in him! His son Alexander stayed in Southill, but perhaps significantly in the light of Peter's comment about Rooks in Sutton, his daughter Elizabeth married John Madlock from Eltisley at Clifton and they produced children in Meppershall, but their son Alexander Medlock married in Sutton and had 17 children by two wives there. Sutton is worthy of further investigation. 3. Please reply to the list on this one as I too am interested in Alexander ROOK b.1670 married to Millicent GADSBY b.15 Oct 1670. Millicent was the daughter of Richard GADSBY c.1647 and Millicent CROFT c.1647 and married 16 Sep 1667 at Campton. Alexander could have been born at Clifton where his children were born, or Campton where he married, as well as Southill or Northill. From IGI, I have tracked a Richard Brittain b about 1744 Felmersham who married an Elizabeth, & they had daughter Elizabeth 1776 Felmersham. I have it that daughter Elizabeth married in 1798 a John Whittal born 1775, this pair had daughter Sarah Whittal b 1808 Felmersham, & Sarah married a John Partridge b 1804 Oakley Beds. The John Whittal had brother Thomas b 1779 who married Elizabeth, & had daughter Catherine 1805. Now she married Charles Partridge of Bletsoe in 1826.
