He is recorded on 1881 Census 12 years.Cottages Swan Street, Ivinghoe, Buckinghamshire, England PRO ref RG1/1644 Folio 34 Page 3 FHL film but not on the 1891 and 1901 Census. I presume he was still alive by then as he had a daughter Hilda Sybil KING born 18th January 1903.. Two sons prior to this - Albert F. KING born abt 1898 and Ernest abt. 1900. (both sons killed on the WW2 - unable to locate Albert F. KING death details) Wife: Suzanna(h) BIERTON married 31st May 1897in the Parish Church of Pitstone, Co. Bucks, England His parents are Charles KING born abt 1845 Billington, Bedfordshire, England and Mary Ann...... Would somebody be able to check Military Records to see if JOSEPH KING is recorded between 1891 and 1904. I am not too familiar with what Wars may have been active at that time. Maybe BOER WAR records. There was some talk that he went to India with the Boer War. We have checked Census records with out success. He is recorded deceased 18-May-1918 on his daughters marriage certificate. Thanks Reg for the message and thanks for the Riseley Marriage information. That's fine . Most of the info I have on Riseleys [all spellings ] is way back in the 1700's where we have a William 1770-1805 who married a Sarah.................? Their daughter Sophia Riseley married George Waldock, miller ofAstwick Mill. George and Sophia's daughter, Sarah Riseley Waldock married Robert Emery Cranfield Grant 9 Sept 1853 at Astwick. I am searching for siblings, marriages and children in all these families, also dates and places. There was an oil portrait of George Waldock which we saw in England in 1976 when we visited a family cousin at Bromley. The whereabouts of any other pictures of this line would be of interest. Hello Peter Thankyou so much for your assistance. I know how frustrating it is. We have been to UK and checked out Tring and Ivinghoe in Buckinghamshire. We did find the Memorial monument in Tring with Ernest Kings name on it. The Website you sent did give me some information along time ago, but then I found some discrepanies after we started to purchase certificates or Census sheets. I will go back to it, as I have not looked at it for a few years, That is all my husbands family line in that family tree. Somebody suggested Joseph KING may have gone to War. I have not gone down that tract to check out the Boer War records. Thanks once again. Mary, Hello from a fellow Aussie. I've just spent nearly an hour trying to find your elusive Joseph King in 1901 census. I can see your problem. There is no reason for him to be missing other than a dreaded transcription error. However, there was some good news. Go to www.rootsweb.com and click on Family Trees in the banner line at the top. Search for Jesse Bierton. This is Susanna's father. There is a submission there by Heather Rorher that contains details of the family. Heather looks to have a database of over 100,000 names including some Linning lines. She has Albert 1898, Ernest 1900 and Sybil 1903. Ernest and Sybil are shown as born in Tring, Hertfordshire so they may have moved immediately after the marriage. However, I still can't find them and I don't have credits for 1901 to investigate all the possibilities. The list also shows that Susanna died in 1945 in Tring, Hertfordshire, so maybe that's where you need to look. Peter in Sydney

On 10.7.2006, Betty Marty wrote Here's a tip that I find brings up lots of GEDCOM material at GOOGLE.... Just type in your search bar: (surname you're searching) plus ged2html My search would be: Standlee ged2html This narrows it down to genealogy only, and you do not have to wade through a lot of GOOGLE results which may or may not have anything to do with genealogy. Happy hunting to all~!!!! Betty ************************ A great tip. Thanks Betty
10 Jul 06 Peter, your answer to Fay (below) covered a lot of groundwork in searching Genealogy surnames. Here's one that I find brings up lots of GEDCOM Material....just type in your search bar: (surname you're searching) plus ged2html My search would be: Standlee ged2html This narrows it down to genealogy only, and you do not have to wade through a lot of GOOGLE results which may or may not have anything to do with genealogy. Happy hunting to all~!!!! Betty Fay, Try submitted FAMILY TREES at www.rootsweb.com There is also a similar site at Genes Reunited, but that requires a subscription. Click on Advanced Search, to see the selection criteria. Because you need exact matches with other peoples submissions, the less data the better. Start with just the surnames, and then refine the search. Next try date periods +/-20 years. Then you might try given names. Then try separate searches for each surname first with Haynes and then with Bedfordshire. Of course there are always surname message boards and mailing lists at Rootsweb and Genforum. And it's always worthwhile to try Google, even though there will be thousands of responses. Peter in Sydney PS!! Have you ever tried using just the surname to search 1881 census and see the surname distribution throughout Bedfordshire.
Thanks to those who gave me the correct address for Bedford Archives. I had used clearly a wrong address. Reg

Cathy, Thanks for your helpful comments about Tempsford burials. I've since learned that the Methodists did maintain graveyards of their own, in Yorks at least, so perhaps in Beds too. Shall now look to contact the Beds Archivist. Had a look at the Bedford Archives website which you passed on to someone else, but drew a blank. A number of the pages were not available and it looks as if it may no longer be maintained. Regards, Reg
Hi All the listers of todays page which NZ did not get until 2pm today. Bedfordshire is the most friendly, hard working on other people's work to be so helpful. Humourous, Serious, nobody seems to mind helping and I find in this day and age that is so hard to find. I am so grateful to every one who replied to my personal email address, which I have answered and the ones who answered through the list, every little bit is of great help. Now I must figure out the distance between Knotting and Milton Ernest as perhaps my William COX who married Charlotte SAWFORD had some of the children bapt. in Knotting and moved later to Milton Ernest. Sue Given do you need Susan HOLLOMAN Ancestors? Pat Burke look forward to hearing about the COX connection Kindest Regards Betty Lark Richmond, Nelson NZ
Hi Betty, I am just catching up with my mail between visiting my husband in hospital. I wanted you to know that there are SAWFORD family members in Harrold about six miles from Milton Ernest if my memory is correct. I am looking for members of the HOOKER family in Miilton Ernest my G.Grandfather Stephen and his wife Martha Christina lived there and wwere big supporters of the Methodist Church. I am having no luck whatsoever in tracing his brothers one we think lived at Turvey again not far away. Listing the little I know of my Bedforshire ancestry. MORRIS line Samuel b.c.1795 Pavenham Parents William b. c.1761 & Ann Levitt – I think. Samuel married Mary Dennis – date unknown Later farmed in Kempston Son Charles – b. c.1835 Kempston – still looking for siblings Married Lucy SMITH Kempston 1856, Charles constable at Dunstable at time. Son Frank Charles Fitzowen b. Tilbook 1.3.1857, father constable there, later possibly both baker & an asylum attendant. Other children – Samuel b.1859, Sidney John b. 1862, possibly Charles 1863. Lucy SMITH b1831 daughter of Richard Smith b1801 & Lucy BRITTAIN (b.c. 1800 at Meppershall Bdf ) Richard & Lucy married at Campton Dec 1819. Children were Thomas, Elizabeth, John, Richard, Lucy, Samuel, Joseph. Grandfather Frank Charles Fitzowen Morris' story was that he ran away from home because he hated his step mother. Joined the army, served in India, came to Sydney nSW in November 1885. He never contacted his family again nor told his Australian wife and children the names of his parents, grandparents etc. I have a little guilt for breaking his secret. Certainly not enough guilt to to stop me from continuing the hunt and would welcome any information, suggestions and especially contact with any family connection.
