Hi all I have hit a blank wall with my ggf William Charles Hoaten. I believe he came from England. This surname seems to be rather uncommon and as I have been told there were Hoatens in Bedford, I am hoping someone here can help break this wall. >From Findmypast WC Hoaten appears to have traveled from London to South Africa (Cape) in 1899. He was listed as Wm Hoaten, born in 1874. There was also a W Hoaten (b 187 and E Hoaten (b 1886) who traveled from Southampton to South Africa (Cape) in 1907. He moved from South Africa to Rhodesia where he retired as a Major in the Defense Force. When I google this surname I get lots fo hits for the town but nothing for the surname. He died in Rhodesia and it is almost impossible to get a copy of his Death cert from Zimbabwe, so this source is a dead end too. Does anyone have any ideas on how to find out about him? Thanks Michelle Israel

John and David Rootsweb only supports plain text. Conversion from HTML to plain text is not guaranteed accurate. I've seen the blank result before - I have a Visual Basic macro for Outlook 2000 which is supposed to convert HTML to plain text but gives empty msgs occasionally if msg came from a Webmail service such as Hotmail, Yahoo or AOL. (It seemed OK if msgs came from Outlook or Outlook Express) I could prove the conversion was faulty as the full msg was still on my server. In your case of course the corruption occurs on arrival at Rootsweb from you - they probably use the same macro! Now to get back on topic! Late last year my NZ Provider merged with Yahoo. The latter then blocked dozens of addresses in my address book- some of them are still blacklisted! Just this week I have had several reinstated! After 5months of complaining, being referred to Crisis Technical Teams - wonder why they needed them???!! Mailing lists were favourites it seems! If anyone is having probs with Yahoo I'd advise speaking to the Provider - severely!. Cheers Marlene David Cooper wrote: > Thanks Marlene. I'm now replying from a gmail account I've set up.
