Living in New London Ct People in household: Lura Beckwith age 12 Elias Beckwith age 14 Edna Beckwith age 37 Edna Beckwith age 15 James W Beckwith age 18 (possible birth year 1842) Note middle inital for him. If he is a Jr. it's probable his father is a James W too. Harriet Beckwith age 8 Lena Beckwith age 3 I found a cemetery record that might relate: Windham Co., Ct Windham Cemetery James W. Beckwith, Corporal, d. Feb. 2 1918, age 70 years, Company A., 3rd Artillery, Rhode Island Volunteers, G.A.R. marker and flag. Maria L. Beckwith, wife of James W., born 1829 (? she would be several years older than her husband) died 1918. I also found where one of James and Edna's sons was listed as a teemster, and one worked in a cotton mill, but I didn't write it down, so at this point I've forgotten. I will go back tomorrow and look again. I have done searches under each son on several genealogy sites and in Paul Beckwith's book. I even started looking for older Beckwith families in Waterford (sometimes looking up their families gives clues). I am intrigued by a Richard Beckwith b. 1782 d. 1866. He could be the right age to be James's father or uncle, but that is a long shot. His wife was named Frelove Beckwith. Maybe someone on the board has more info on this line. This family has to have family graves somewhere in Waterford, Montville,Colchester or New London. My husband's favorite hobby is restoring old VW "bugs". We have had several, and yes, they are so dependable(if you overlook the clutch cable). We can tell stories about how everyone in the family knows how to replace a clutch cable while stranded on the side of the highway. Our daughter has a purple 1969 one that she and her husband enter in car shows( and win). Our best one was a 1959 VW camper, it was a beauty. We were crazy for selling it.
