It was a fun car to drive. It always felt back-heavy because the engine was in the rear. I have been told by neighbors who owned them that they are nearly impossible to get stuck in the winter. In 1974, Consumer guide wrote about the V.W. van and had this to say about the under-powered engine: 'You just floor the gas pedal and steer in the direction you want to go'. I thought that was amusing. Most of the information that you have supplied is already in the tree. The Corporal is new though. He is almost the same age as James's son, James W. Jr. On Wednesday, I will take a ride down to Waterford, CT. and look around in their records. They are usually good at letting people roam through what they have. Most of the smaller towns will while Hartford and New Haven won't. I don't know how far you are from Connecticut so I don't know whether you have the opportunity to get to Waterford but, I would be most willing to do whatever searches you need for the Beckwiths on your side while I am there. It is the least I can do. Just let me know who you need more information on and I will look it up while I am there. I will also take in New London and Montville too since they are close to each other. If any other names of your family were in those areas and you need information on them, let me know and I will check on them too. This is a great opportunity for you if you live far away. Sincerely, W. V. Coleman/Johnson Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
