I have marriage and death certificates for both stating their father was William C and mother Phebe Sprague. They may have been only commonly law married for I have found no documentation of their marriage or divorce. They may have also had a older son Ralph Died Steuben County NY 1867. William went west in 1849 possibly thru Pa & Oh. He may have settled back in Ct and (re-)married for his daughter in law stated Willam was from Lyme, If there is anyone that has info on a possible match or something I can look into to verify this mans existance please contact me at dynastyyaj @ yahoo.com Thank you Shari Beckwith Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Elisha (1761) m. Grace Leach. Elisha's father was also Elisha, b. 1735, son of John Beckwith and possibly Hannah Brooks. I have found a suggestion that Elisha Beckwith (1735) was m. to 'a daughter of Nehemiah Smith', and I'd like to prove or disprove this. I did find a reference in "A genealogical history of the descendants of the Rev. Nehemiah Smith of New London Cty., Conn.", by Henry Allen Smith, to a Lydia Smith, (Samuel/Nehemiah/Nehemiah) who married an Elisha Beckwith, but there is no information on who his parents were. This Lydia Smith and Elisha Beckwith did have a son, Elisha, but his marriage as listed in this book is not to Grace Leach -- though it could reference an earlier marriage to Sally Miller. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Tell them what exactly you are looking for. Get the addresses on line and be prepared to spend a few buck for look ups. You may even ask for folks to hire to do the look ups. That way you will cover most oppunities of information. Good Luck Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The first Beckwith in my line to come to Australia was William John Beckwith between 1854 and 1856. His father's family came from Houghton le Spring in Co Durham. Parents were John Beckwith and Mary Mowbray circa 1790's. I don't have anything prior to that time. William's sister and half siblings all went to the USA. William John and Eliza Walsh had a large family in Woodend, Vic and also lived in Rochester, Vic. Some of the family in the next generation lived in Undera, Mooroopna and Tatura. Beckwiths from this line also lived in Deniliquin, Hay and Tocumwal. I'd be pleased to share information. Regards Ann Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I've started narrowing down all the familys (trying to) in England and from what I've found so far is that one lot originated in Essex and another lot in Yorkshire, What made me think it was one family is that the beckwiths of essex only seem to be there after a certain date, but the yorkshire i can find earlier, My thinking was that the Beckwith line in Essex possibly originated from the Yorkshire family. Who knows. I know it is a big family and quite spread out, it really wouldn't surprise me. How long have they been in N.S.W. It was a fun car to drive. It always felt back-heavy because the engine was in the rear. I have been told by neighbors who owned them that they are nearly impossible to get stuck in the winter. In 1974, Consumer guide wrote about the V.W. van and had this to say about the under-powered engine: 'You just floor the gas pedal and steer in the direction you want to go'. I thought that was amusing. Most of the information that you have supplied is already in the tree. The Corporal is new though. He is almost the same age as James's son, James W. Jr. On Wednesday, I will take a ride down to Waterford, CT. and look around in their records. They are usually good at letting people roam through what they have. Most of the smaller towns will while Hartford and New Haven won't. I don't know how far you are from Connecticut so I don't know whether you have the opportunity to get to Waterford but, I would be most willing to do whatever searches you need for the Beckwiths on your side while I am there. It is the least I can do. Just let me know who you need more information on and I will look it up while I am there. I will also take in New London and Montville too since they are close to each other. If any other names of your family were in those areas and you need information on them, let me know and I will check on them too. This is a great opportunity for you if you live far away.
