My name is Gary Warner, a genealogist in Birmingham, Alabama. This is my "brain dump" on Arkansas families from my mother-in-law's family tree. I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who might have information or relatives on any of the below. If anyone has access to marriage records that might help date and place some of the below, I would love to speak with you as well. My mother-in-law, who lives with us, was from Texarkansas, Ouichata county. Her family also lived in Hempstead, and Nevada Counties as well. Her name is Dorothy Rumsey, and her family tree, as far we know, looks something like this: /--David Rumsey /--Roy Thomas Rumsey b. 4 SEP 1901 | \ /-Thomas Fisher | \--Roxie Fisher | \ /-William Jasper Breed ==> (much more) | \-Sarah C. Breed | \- Eliza A. ??? | Dorothy Jane Rumsey b. DEC 8, 1929 | /--Charles Featherstone Walthall ==> (much more) | /--William Jethro Walthall b. 9 MAR 1858 | | \--Mary Jemima Meadow | /--Millard Orestes Walthall b. 31 JAN 1883 | | \--Missie Parthenia Beavers \--Gladys Walthall b. 4 DEC 1906 \--Vannah Moore Some notes on a few of the clan. Two Walthalls bought land of the government in 1860 in Ouichata county. Edward, and William. Willard Jethro Walthall, was a powerful evangelist and pastor, who taught at Ouichata College See: http://www.pcfa.org/genealogy/PineyGrove.html Millard Orestes Walthall was a newspaperman in Prescott, Arkansas. When the clan burned down his paper after some anti-Klan articles (which I would LOVE to find!), he relocated the family to Texarkansas, and started a new paper there instead. I would love to find ANY articles written by this editor! My only potential lead on the BEAVERS family, is this census record: On the 1860 Ouchita County census Missouri Township, it lists the following family: J.G. Beavers 45 M Ten Nancy 36 F Ten Wm J. 15 M Ten Mary F. 13 F Ten Margaret 10 F Ten John 8 M Ark Missouri 5 F Ark Marilda 2 F Ark Marrietta 3/12 F Ark Is it possible that this "Missouri", born c. 1855, might be my "Missie Parthenia Beavers"? This would place her at age 28 when her son, Millard Orestes was born. (And would be nice, since at least 6 generations of her ancestry are known...8-). Looking for indication or contradiction. Thanks for your patient reading, Gary Warner http://glwarner.narrowgate.net/genealogy/blackhole.html
