Hello everyone. I just joined the list and am looking for help tracing my family tree. I've tried tons of web sites and keep hitting a dead end. Here's my story: My father, Gene Ferguson, was the illegitimate son of Forest E. Beavers of Columbus, IN. and Bertha Mae Ferguson. When Bertha became pregnant, her father, Francis Marion Ferguson, ran Forest off at the point of a shotgun! (no shotgun wedding here!!) Forest moved to Santa Barbara, CA prior to WWII and worked for the railroad. At the advent of the war, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in Europe. I believe he was in France when he recieved word that his brother Orville was critically injured in Italy when his tank was blown up. His CO would not grant him emergency leave to be with his brother, so Forest went AWOL! Somehow he managed to make it to his brothers side. Thankfully, Orville was going to make it! He was shipped to a stateside hospital where he was later discharged. I'm not certain how Forest rejoined his unit or whatever became of the charges against him. How about that.... one brother a decorated war hero, the other a criminal!! After the war, Forest married Leola M. (unknown) b. Jun 6, 1916 d.Aug 3 1989. He retired as a machinist with Cummins to his farm in Columbus, IN where he raised registered Black Angus cattle. Forest died in a VA hospital on Sep 8, 1978. (Must not have gotten a dishonorable discharge!) They are both buried in Riverside Cemetary, Seymore, IN. Forest was born to Jessie Beavers & Sophie Garlow on Sep 7, 1912. He had three brothers, Orville, of Muncie, IN. Ralph "John", of Freetown, IN. and Albert of Calif. He had one sister. A Mrs. Ollie Malson of Edinburgh,IN. I have been told he had a cousin out in Nebraska with the same name as his but with a different spelling. His was Forrest E. Beavers. Now you know almost all the info that I do! Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanx in advance!!

Hi Listers, I am researching the Beavers line of the family. I have Margaret Beavers married to Edmond Allen mar 1832 in Loudoun Co, VA. Does anyone know anything more about her, her parents or siblings? Thanks, Janice
Looking for the Beaver/Beavers line and I am not having any luck. This is what I do have. Minnie Beaver was born November 1863, Texas. she married Jesse Kinman, March 29, 1885, Erath County, Texas. In a letter dated 1977, it states that Minnie died on a reservation near Durant, Yarnaby Community, Oklahoma, buried in Yuba Cemetery. Father's name was Jim Beavers. It is believed the family was Cherokee, but Mr. Kinman (Jack, her son) said his mother was Regular Delaware. Minnie, returned to the reservation when she discovered she was going to die. She had a regular funeral and then an old Indian Chief performed ceremonial dances. The cemetery in Yuba is now on private property. No one is allowed on the property. Her grave was placed under a hugh Hackberry tree. The cemetery may not exist any more, because when someone went looking for it, they found the property the cemetery was suppose to be located on, was covered with heavy machinery. The man who owned the property was working on leveling, ect. Her death certificate is on record at the Durant Court house, Durant Oklahoma, which is only 17 miles from the Yuba Cemetery. It can not be read except the name is discernible. Jim Beavers the father of Minnie is buried in Oklahoma in Indian Territory near Ardmore. If anyone can help me with this family, I would be a very happy camper. Many thanks, Marika

Genealogical Researchers: The following is an outline of some of the LDS Records, as well as how I have utilized them for several years. LDS MICROFICHE RECORDS: You can either view these microfiche at any Family History Center throughout the world, or purchase them for yourself, at 15 cents per sheet. Most Public Libraries have a microfiche reader, or you can purchase a used one for less than $75. If you want to purchase LDS Microfiche, follow these directions: Call 1-800-537-5950 and order these FREE order forms. Tell them that all of your items are FREE items. # 33360 Order forms # 31874 FHL catalog order form for microfiche # 31791 IGI order form for microfiche # 34083 Family history publications list order form Order about 5 copies of each item. When you receive the order forms, you can purchase the microfiche for 15 cents each, plus S&H. 1. International Genealogical Index (IGI): Millions & millions of names. You will not find dates of death on this index. But, did you know that your ancestor's name is not even on this index unless a member of the LDS has performed an LDS ordinance for your ancestor? There are a variety of ordinances which they perform besides Baptisms. Each Microfiche sheet has about 40,000 names on it. 2. Locality Catalog: This shows you what types of records have been microfilmed for a particular locality. The microfilm numbers relate to the reels, which have the actual documents microfilmed. 3. Surname Catalog: This shows you which books that a particular surname are listed in, even if the title may not include your particular surname. Through these records, I was able to find 2 books that included my direct lineage, and I had no idea that they were ever published. Many of these books are also available to rent via microfilm from the LDS. 4. Author, Subject & Title Catalog: This catalog is MASSIVE! A listing of just about everything regarding family history in the entire world. As you may or may not know, a lot of this info is also available on www.familysearch.org . But, this website has a lot of traffic, and I find it much easier to get a bird's eyeview via microfiche. Also, the microfiche allows you to see various codes, which gives you many more clues in your research. Everyone who is on this list, does not have access to the web. I, for example, am writing this email to you, via a 486 computer that has only email access on it. I am not affiliated with the LDS in any way. However, I do know that they have the largest collection of genealogical records in the entire world. They are the ones who created GEDCOM & the first genealogy software called PAF. They are also the ones who started the massive microfilming projects during the 1940s. If it wasn't for their efforts, I could not have found a lot of what I have, unless I visited the actual courthouses & State Archives. When I am satisfied that I have collected a large amount of information on one of my particular lineages, here is what I do: I submit a GEDCOM diskette to the LDS Ancestral File, and then I print out a hard copy of narrative about these folks, and organize & index it in book form. Many of today's genealogy software programs will do this for you. I send this hard copy to the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City, UT, and they have it hardbound for their library's circulation. I also give the LDS the right to microfilm my book, so that someone else who is looking for this info, will be able to find it, maybe 50 years from now. Everything that I submitted to the LDS Ancestral File in 1995, is now available for others to download via www.familysearch.org . The main fruits of our genealogical efforts is the ability to SHARE with others. You often hear a lot about how inaccurate the LDS records are. But, in genealogy, you have to take everything with a grain of salt. Do you think that you have actual "proof" of anything? Think about it. The only real proof of your ancestors, is if you have a video tape of you being born, and then, you would only know who your mother was. While people were giving depositions in court, responding to census enumerators, and giving information about the deceased on a death certificate, do you think that everything that they stated was accurate? Not to mention, the massive amount of errors that you can find in newspaper obituaries, as well as tombstones at cemeteries. The best that we can do, is to measure the whole pile of "evidence", and try to make a conclusion based on this. The LDS should be commended for providing most of this information to us for FREE, or for such a ridiculously low price, that it only compensates them for their actual costs. Their Family History Publications List has several research supplies for FREE or almost nothing, such as: 1. List of Family History Centers. 2. Ancestral File info. 3. Family History Research. 4. Foreign Language Helps. 5. Software & resources. 6. Research Outlines for: British Isles, Canada, Europe, Latin America, Scandinavia, Asia/South Pacific. 7. Research Outlines for every State in the US. These cost 50 cents each, and give great details on every phase or research within that state. 8. Family Group Records & Pedigree Charts. 9. Research Logs. Cost is $2.25 for 100 sheets. 10.Census Work Sheets. Cost is 4 cents each. 11. U.S. Military Records Research Outline. Cost is 50 cents. 12. U.S. Genealogical Research Outline. Cost is $1. Take care, and Happy Hunting! William A. Mills Perry, GA [email protected] ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. If you would like to obtain this comprehensive genealogical publication, please call 1-800-537-5950 and ask for # 30971, A GUIDE TO RESEARCH. Guess what? This publication only costs 40 cents, and the copy that I have, looks like it is printed on heavy duty, acid-free stock, and also has a nice, thick, full-color, glossy cover. However, if you want to order it by credit card, it will cost an extra $2. But, since there are no S&H charges, how can you lose? If, however, you can wait a few weeks to receive a Family History Publications List (# 34083), and the order form (# 33360), you will not have to pay the extra $2. The information I have on the Beavers family in my line is limited and is focused in KY and AR in the 1800s. William Bird's 4th wife (and my ancestor) was Anna J. Beavers. She was born in KY in Oct., 1863 and they married abt 1880, when she was 17 (and he was 42). They had five children, all born in AR, probably Lonoke Co.: Moody - b. 1884, Sanky - b.1888, Alonzo - b. 1897, Lou - b. 1900 and Apsie Ruby - b. 1901. Anna died in Lonoke and was buried there. I'm trying to find information on her parents. Other than her birth location in KY, I have no clues. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Sandy
I'm researching the Beavers family, too. My branch is centered in the northeastern part of Oklahoma and the northwestern part of Arkansas. My great-great-great-grandfather was John Paul Beavers. I believe he was on the Old Settler Rolls. I've been told that he was one of those given a bag of flour, some gunpowder and a musket and told to go west. Unfortunately, I do not have any dates on him. His son (the only child that I know of) was George Paul Beavers. George married Mary Ellen Jordan in McDonald County, Missouri, on November 1, 1883. I know that for a time they lived where the town of Bella Vista, Arkansas, is now. George owned all the land in that area and sold it for $100 except for a small family cemetery where a young daughter was supposedly buried. George and Mary moved to Adair County, Oklahoma, near Watts and Westville. They had ten living children: Haywood, Ervin, Ollie, Jack, Frank and Francis (twins), James, Maude, Pearl, and Ethel. George was a circuit minister. My great-grandfather (James) used to talk about how his father would come in from the fields, clean up, then mount up on his horse to travel up to thirty miles to preach. Unfortunately, that was about all James ever said about his dad. He was pretty close-mouthed about his family. However, I have heard that both George and Ellen died when James was young. I believe James was mostly raised by his elder siblings. James Augustus Beavers was born in August 1902 in Adair County, Oklahoma. He married Reba Elva Paschal, and they had eight children: Betty, Bobby Gene, June and Jim (another set of twins), Bill, Geraldine, Shirley, and Paulette. The family moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas, where that branch of the family is still centered today. A mystery surrounds James' first marriage. He was married once before he wed Reba. No children were born to that marriage, or at least none survived. James would not mention his first wife, and so none of us even know her name. I've heard that she left him and went home to live with her family. My grandfather was Bobby Gene. He was born in 1932 and was the second child. Bobby moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in his teens, married, and had two children. The Beavers family is of Cherokee descent. I would like to prove relationship to someone on the rolls. Although I am now too old to be on the rolls myself, I have a younger brother and several cousins that could benefit from being on them. I would like to find any distant cousins and trade notes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Lynna Beavers Nix
Yes, I also belong to the list! I guess it is just us two. I am looking for the parents of William BEAVERS b. 1800, Tennessee. He m. (1) Millie STEVENS (dau. of George) in 1821 in Lawrence County, AL. He has sons James and Alfred by that marriage. He m. (2) Agnes Patrick (dau. of John) in 1827 also in Lawrence County, AL. They had Berthana, Rigdon, Willie J. (female), Mary M., Verlinda, William Charles, Michael, and John. William died 1873 in Lawrence County, AL. I am 99% sure he is of the Lincoln County, TN BEAVERS family but I cannot fit him in. Who are you working on? Mildred Wright "Mickey" Fournier PO Box 1967, Lake City, FL 32056 [email protected]

I descend from William BEAVERS/BEVERS/BEAVER/etc. who was born 1800 in Tennessee. By 1821 he was in Lawrence Co., AL where he married Millie STEVENS (daughter of George). By her he had two sons, James and Albert. Millie apparently died before 1827, William married Agnes PATRICK (daughter of John) that year. They had Berthana, Rigdon, William Charles, Verlinda,Mary M., Willie J.(female), Michael and John L. I have strong circumstantial evidence that Wiliam was of the Lincoln County, TN BEAVERS family but I need those last bits of proof. I will be happy to exchange information!
