I was in Newfoundland for two weeks and am just back to looking up family history. was it a family tree on Beavers you were looking for or on John Walter Brodie? I was in Port Sanilac Michigan back in March and thought I could find the Beavers grave but I was at the wrong cemetary. I have some family history related to Mary, Desdemona and John Brodie but now I have come to find out that most of it was wrong. The book had Desdemona married to John Walter when in fact it was her sister. The family history for Brodie is contained in a book called Butternuts and Maple Sugar and it documents the Brodie's from l805 or so when they came from Canada. I am having trouble linking a generation. I would also like to know more about the Beavers family and about Spencer A Beavers who was James, Desdemona and Mary's father. Did he die in the Civil War? I know very little about the Civil War but this is all helping me....thankyou! Debbie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I try not to discount any possibility. Too many nicknames in my family line to do that. That being said, I do not believe this is Sarah. I did a bit more looking at Gabriel Butler from the above marriage record and it appears that he was married to a Sarah Ann Bevis (Beavers) who died in 1850. He remarried a lady by the name of Charolette Best in 1853. So Sarah S. Bevis was indeed Sarah Ann "Sallie" Beavers. Not my Sarah though. The death record sealed the deal :) In the beginning, I thought that my Sarah may have divorced Gabe and moved on to James Christian. I found more Beavers in Virginia and am taking a look at them. Sarah named one daughter Salina and I found that name in this VA line. Also, I am still intrigued by your William Braden Beavers. Names like Frances, Mary, Margaret are there too. I don't think she would be listed as Sarah Butler in the mortality record if she subsequently married a Christian. Since my first reply to you, I have found possible evidence of another Beavers in North Alabama around the same time period. Check out Thomas L. Beavers in my Beavers-Olsen tree. He had a daughter that married a Danley although the sources are a little sketchy. He also had a daughter named Susan that was born about 1932 and living in his household at age 17 in 1850. Sallie could have been a nickname for Susan. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [BEAVERS] Benjamin Beavers, 1790 Wake Co, NC Federal Census
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: JangoCatt Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.beavers/1141/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In researching my King ancestors, I came across a Benjamin Beavers listed in the 1790 Federal Census for Wake County, North Carolina. The census shows there was one male over 16 in the household (Benjamin), 2 males under 16 and 2 females. Does anyone have any additional information on this person? Drury King (1768-1851) is also listed on the same census (one page over) and is the father of Guilford Dudley King (1789-1875) who later settled in Lauderdale County, AL. I believe my Allen Beavers (1785-1871) may have traveled to Alabama with the King wagon train though I don't have evidence to support this. However, Allen's son William Braden married Guilford Dudley's daughter Margaret, so there was a definite connection other than geography. I have been unable to find any information on Allen's parents though some suppose he is the son of William Walter Beavers. I don't believe this is the case for a variety of reasons. What I am hoping is that I have uncovered my easter egg in Benjamin, whose Wake Co information would match up with Allen's age at the time of that census. If anyone has information on a Benjamin Beavers that would have been born somewhere from 1750-1760, I would appreciate hearing about it. Author: mistertripps Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.beavers/1047.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There have been lots of family rumors that the Beavers of Lauderdale County were Native American, but I can find no evidence of a connection. Best I can tell, the Beavers who helped settle Lauderdale County came from Virginia to North Carolina to Georgia and were originally from Wales. I think the Native American tale is a misguided effort to explain the meaning behind the name. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: mistertripps Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.beavers/1047.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The 1820 Census for Giles County, TN lists an Allen Beevers on page 33 having one male child to the age of 10 (possibly Allen, Jr.), one male child between 10 and 16 (possibly William Braden) and four female children to age 10. I've not been able to confirm any of the names of Allen's girls with the exception of Mary Rhea (Polly) Beavers who was born in the time frame to have been one of the four girls. I've had speculation that a Sarah Beavers who married Gabe Butler could have been one of the four, but haven't been able to find any other information. Your Elizabeth and Charlotte fit the vitals of the other two missing girls, so that is a definite strong lead. Giles County is very close to the Lauderdale County, AL line and it stands to reason that Allen and his family could have lived there shortly before settling later a few miles south in AL. Alabama had just achieved statehood less than a year before this census was taken, so it is also possible that current state ! lines were not clear and Allen was already living in present day Lauderdale County.
