    3. Judith, I'm not sure how many folks currently on this email list were on the list and active at the time I subscribed to it in Nov 2002! Much of the web research we did then was from various rootsweb surname family trees. We communicated through the list about what we found on the lists, and others on the list also provided information from paper research they had done. That being said, I refer you to the following tree which was last updated Oct 15, 2011. https://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=beaversdna&id=I2080 There are references to the work that Gary Watson with a link that is unfortunately gone. In my beavers data, I show Williams wife was Abigail Unknown with a note that says it's not verified. I've done some research on this line although it's not my direct Beavers line using rootsweb, census information from ancestry.com, and memorials and documentation on the memorials from FindAGrave. However, I can't answer your questions about William's wife and parents except for what I said above. You might want to search the archives to see if you can find email that might have move information. If you look at https://mailinglists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/ and then choose Search all list archives, you might find more information. Hopefully, someone else on the list can provide more help. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: L_F_Wright Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.beavers/1167.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks for the DNA information. It illustrates the hazards of assuming persons with the same surname are related just because they are co-located. My identification of 1850 (year of death) Spencer Beavers of Giles Co., Tenn., (place of death) as a son of 1804 Thomas Beavers of Wilson Co., Tenn., is based on several pieces of evidence. 1806 Tax List Wilson Co., Tenn., Capt. Dorran's Dist. Spencer Beavers, 1 white poll [Partlow, Thomas E. Tax Lists of Wilson County, Tennessee, 1803-1807. (Baltimore: Genealogical Publ. Co., 1981,) p. 83.] Rutherford Co., Tenn., DB B:108, 23 August 180__, records the purchase by Nancy Beavers of 163 acres of land in Rutherford Co., Tenn. Witnesses were John Hill and Thomas Beavers. 1810 Census Rutherford Co., Tenn., Nashville Twp., p. 23 Thomas "Bevers" [00100-00100] 1810 Census Rutherford Co., Tenn., Rutherford Twp., p. 44 Nancy "Bevers" [01210-01101] (I suspect Spencer Beavers is the male, 26-45, in which case he has three younger brothers and two sisters.) 1810 Tax List Rutherford Co., Tenn., p. 5. Nancy Beavers, 163 acres, no poll Spencer Beavers, 1 lot, 1 white poll Thomas Beavers, 1 white poll 1811 Tax List Rutherford Co., Tenn., p. 63 Nancy Beavers, 163 acres, no poll Spencer Beavers, 1 white poll 1812 Tax List Rutherford Co., Tenn., p. 7 Nancy Beavers, 163 acres, no poll Thomas Beavers, 1 white poll 1812 Tax List Rutherford Co., Tenn., p. 8 Spencer Beavers, 1 white poll, 1 black poll 1820 Census Rutherford Co., Tenn., Murfreesboro, p. 188 Thomas Beavers, [30010-10100]. There are other persons named Beavers on different pages. Relationships unknown. All of the men are 26-45 years old with young families. This is the last mention of Thomas I have found with certainty. I have not found him in the 1830 Census, but Rutherford Court Minutes for the 1820's have not been reviewed in detail. 1820 Census Giles Co., Tenn., Pulaski, p. 24 Spencer Beavers, [30010-31010]. Spencer Beavers remains in Giles County in 1830 (p. 185) and 1840 (p. 159). Tennessee Mortality Schedule, 1850, June, Giles Co., Tenn., Spencer Beavers, age 71, "gravel". My primary interest is in finding confirmation that the wife of 1871 David Clark of Henry Co., Tenn., was Katherine Beavers. The Bible record I have used has proven correct where I could verify it. Katherine said she was born in Virginia, which is consistent with the hypothesis that she is a daughter of 1804 Thomas Beavers of Wilson Co., Tenn., and a sister to 1850 Spencer Beavers of Giles Co., Tenn. She also named two of her sons Spencer B. Clark. One died young, the other, born 13 August 1811 (Bible record) is 1842 Spencer B. Clark of Fayette Co., Tenn. Given the paucity of records, I am looking for clues to connect this Beavers family to East Tennessee, and hopefully to Loudon Co., Virginia. What I have seen to date is a statement that 1804 Thomas Beavers of Wilson Co., Tenn., is the son of 1770 Thomas Beavers of Loudon Co., Va., and his wife, Martha Cargill. This may well be correct; I am interested in following the linkages to see if I can establish the origins of 1871 David Clark of Henry Co., Tennessee. Either one could be son of Thomas Beavers. Spencer Beavers (b.1790, d. after 1850) was elected sheriff of McMinn Co. TN in 1819, and has census records 1830,1840,1850 in McMinn Co. TN. Spencer Beavers (1778-1848) is in Giles Co. TN on 1812 tax, and has census records 1820,1830,1840 in Giles Co. TN. His oldest child was born 1805/10 (per 1820 census), so this Spencer was probably married before 1810 census. Neither of the Spencer Beavers can be located in Wilson Co. TN, or Rutherford Co. TN. It is not proven that any Beavers in Giles Co. TN are related to Thomas Beavers (d. 1804 Wilson TN). Allen Beavers(1781-1871) was in Giles Co. TN on 1820 census. The DNA of descendants show Allen is son/relative of William W Beavers (d. 1807 Elbert GA). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have done mtDNA and Family Finder. My mtDNA wouldn't go that direction, but would follow my maternal line thru the wife of John Levi Beavers, grandson of William H. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: L_F_Wright Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.beavers/1167/mb.ashx Message Board Post: A family Bible record says that 1870 (year of death) David Clark of Henry Co., Tenn., (place of death), married Katherine Beavers. The same record states that Katherine Beavers was born 11 April 1778 and died 20 September 1862. These dates are consistent with the census records, particularly 1850, 1860, and 1870, although no tombstone records have been found. In the census, she was variously listed as being born in Virginia or in North Carolina. David Clark was born 28 October 1779 in North Carolina and died 9 September 1870 in Henry Co., Tenn. He appears in the 1803 Wilson Co., Tenn., tax list, and was in Rutherford Co., Tenn., by 1810, where he appears to be living next door to Thomas Beavers. Thomas Beavers appears on deed and tax lists in conjunction with Nancy Beavers, who appears to be the widow of 1804 Thomas Beavers of Wilson Co., Tenn., although the will does not name his minor children, and only names a son, Spencer Beavers. Spencer Beavers appears in Wilson Co., Tenn., and in Rutherford Co., Tenn., tax lists, but is in Giles Co., Tenn., by 1812, where he died in June 1850 at age 71. (1850 Mortality Schedule). Many online sources identify 1804 Thomas Beavers of Wilson Co., Tenn., as a son of 1770 Thomas Beavers of Loudon Co., Va., and state that his wife was Nancy Henderson. The Nancy Beavers of the 1810 census was over 45, with one son, probably Spencer, 26-44, two 16-25, and one 10-16. If Spencer, b. 1779, was the eldest son, then Nancy was born before 1763, but if her youngest son was 10, then she was probably not much older than age 50 in 1810, and so probably not born much before 1760. Thomas Beavers, the man associated with David Clark, appears in the 1820 Census as 26-45, so was born before 1794 and after 1775. It is reasonable to suppose, then that he was the second son of 1804 Thomas Beavers of Wilson Co., Tenn. Another son is probably Abraham Beavers, who married Delilah Crutchfield 21 November 1823 in Rutherford Co., Tenn., and perhaps Jesse Beavers, who married Sarah B. Wurns in Sumner Co., Tenn., 18 June 1821. There are two marriages in Davidson Co., Tenn., that may be related to this family as well: James Beavers married Rhoda Gambrell 25 October 1799, and Joel Beavers married Lurana Morrell 22 April 1799. I am looking for any information that would attach Katherine Beavers, wife of David Clark, to this family of Beavers, and am also interested in any documentation of the migrations of 1804 Thomas Beavers of Wilson Co., Tenn., from Loudon Co., Va. Beavers age 21 born about 1829 in TN. There is a listing in the U.S. and International Marriages 1560-1900 for Spencer Beavers born 1829 and Catherine Goats born 1832 in TN. There is a Goats family public tree on ancestry that lists their marriage as Mar, 12 1846 Lawrence Co., TN but no source information. The 1850 census lists 2 children: Dixon L. born 1847 TN, and William J. born 1850 TN, There's also TN State Marriages 1780-2002 record dated Mar 11, 1846 Lawrence Co., TN for a marriage between Spencer A. A. A. Beavers was corrected to S. A. Beavers by jlgage1 5/17/2008. The U.S. Civil War Draft Registration Records 1863-1865 lists a Spencer A. Spencer and Martha Clack Beavers had son named William H. J Beavers who was born in 1818 in Giles Co., T and died Jan 18, 1907 in Palo Pinto Co., TX. He and his first wife Lucinda had a son named Spencer DeKalb Beavers who married Mary Leona True. Spencer D and Mary Leona had a daughter named Desdemona. This is the only Desdemona I have in my data. This family was in Texas.. I found Mary A. Brodie married to John Brodie in the 1880 census in Jodan, Whiteside Co., IL. Listed with them is a daughter Isabella age 2 born in IL and a sister-in-law (to John Brodie) Desdemona age 22 born in TN. In 1900 the family of John, Mary, and Isabella Brodie along with Desdemona C. Beavers are in Chicago, Cook Co., IL. There is a listing in the Michigan Death Records 1897-1920 for Desdemona Catherine Beavers born 1865 died July 5, 1915 Sanilac, Sanilac, Michigan, USA. Her father is listed as Spencer Allen Beavers. In the 1880 census Mary's and Desdemona's father was born in TN and the mother in NC. In the 1900 census the parents were born in TN and GA. Because some of the private trees listed M. A. Beavers as Mollie, I searched for Mollie A. Beavers born 1852 TN and found Mollie Beavers age 17 and Wm. J. Beavers age 20 listed in the 1870 census in Rock, Jefferson Co., MO with the family headed by James Burgess. Mollie is listed as a domestic servant and Wm J. as a laborer. No sign of Desdemona Beavers before 1880, and searching for just plain Desdemona did not turn up any postive results. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I do have a copy of Desdemona's death certificate. I've seen markers on line for the other sister that married a Sapper. I think they are buried in Indiana, I would have to look it up. Of course I come from the older brother that came to Texas also a Spencer. My aunt paid someone to go to the cemtery in Michigan to look at markers and make pictures. We have tried to figure out why the brother came to Texas, my grandfather use to talk about the aunts and the fact his dad had been to Canada. But no one got the whole story, not sure how much he knew as he was the youngest, his mother died within weeks of his birth and his dad left him with friends until he got alittle older. His dad died when he was 14. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Beavers...one of his daughters Mary married a great, great, great (might not be enough there) uncle of mine John Walter Brodie from Canada. He was known as Chicago John because he taught in Chicago for many years. John,Mary and Mary's sister Desdemona lived in Glengarry County (ontario) and ended up Port Sanilac, Michigan where they eventually passed away. John Walter's daughter Catherine also ended up marrying a Brodie who was one of her cousins. I am hoping to find the gravesite in the spring. Do you recall if Desdemona was listed in the family bible? Thanks debbiebrodieritz@gmail.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
