    3. Forwarded with permission...Nelda To: "Nelda Percival" <nelda_percival@hotmail.com> Subject: Beatty Date: Wed, 11 Apr 2001 06:31:04 -0500 Hi Nelda, I hope I didn't mislead you. The Beattie and Little Clans fought together with 30+ other clans for 400 years over the Scottish border. They were known as border reivers and were renowned as the best light cavalry fighting unit in Europe. Go here to learn more about the reviers: http://www.reivers.com/ . Other than the reivers, I don't know of any other association with the Beatties as they don't show up in my Clan Little line. I wish they did. Sorry.. 1. BEATTY's in Yakima City/Union Gap, WA.
    2. Nelda Percival
    3. Hi Members of these three lists Beatty, Beaty, and Beattie. While doing cemetery research for the cemeteries in Yakima County, Washington, I found this listing for the BEATTY surname. Union Gap, Yakima Co., WA, Pioneer Cemetery ( This cemetery has no offical records that can be found. I am transcribing the headstones although, some are beyond reading. What I do know is that the cemetery was founded when Union Gap was named Yakima City. That name was changed to Union Gap by state legistration. abot 1909) The Stone is upright about 2ft wide by about 4 inches thick some wear but not vandleised like others in the cemetery. MOTA Daughter of T.M. & R. Beatty; Oct 5, 1902 - Jan 20, 1907; She was the sunshine of our home. Hope that helps locate a Beatty family for someone. I plan to do a full record of this cemetery for the Yakima Valley Historical Society. They have early newspapers from that area Maybe able to find more info on this Beatty family. 2. Nelda Percival
    3. I hope YOU ALL WILL EMAIL ...I HOPE NO ONE GETS MAD I AM SENDING THIS>>> Forwarded with permission....THIS BILL IS SO VERY IMPORTANT FOR ALL OF US!! List administrators, The failure of this bill will cost us so much research documents, that I felt that I must send this out to the lists. Please if you have members living in MONTANA ASK THEM TO READ THE BILL AND SEND THIER COMMENTS TO THEIR RESPECTIVE, STATE CONGRESSMAN OR REPRESENTIVE, THank you Nelda YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU WILL FIND OUT SOME OF YOUR RELATIVES WENT TO MONTANA and due to the loss of records have now dissapeared!!! From: "Patricia Marchington" <marching@avicom.net> To: <Undisclosed.Recipients@mailB.montana.com> CC: <marching@avicom.net> Subject: URGENT--SB 443 has a TIE VOTE OF 9 TO 9 !! Date: Thu, 22 Mar 2001 07:32:18 -0700 TO THE SUPPORTERS OF SB 443 ! The House of Representatives have just told us that they have not heard much from Montana people in their own DISTRICTS. AND mostly from Livingston here...as the only MONTANA people.... HOWEVER, they have heard from all over the STATES (LOTS FROM ALASKA) and around the WORLD (AUSTRALIA, FRANCE, ENGLAND, CANADA...). Especially the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES on this STATE ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE, feel that "playing POLITICS" and squaring off Democrats against Republicans is the way to go with SB 443, (they had a bad long drawn out fight the day before on a different BILL)! And this Committee thinks nit-picking on every little point is being responsible.........SIMPLE SOLUTIONS are not something they understand!! Yes, there has been 4 Amendments to SB 443!!! HOWEVER, SB 443 is still: "AN ACT REQUIRING THAT LOCAL PUBLIC RECORDS BE OFFERED TO CERTAIN ENTITIES AND TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC BEFORE BEING DESTROYED! The Amendments basically state how the NOTICE will be given.........SINCE THE COURTHOUSE CLERKS CAN'T BE BOTHERED WITH HAVING TO GIVE TOO MUCH NOTICE TO PUBLIC (PRIVATE CITIZENS), after all!! SB 443 is still under DEADLINE.....we may have until Monday (I am still checking on this....since everyone tells me a different date!!). I am leaving for Helena in a few minutes......if I have to talk with all of these other 9 NO VOTERS......AND ALL OF THE REMAINING 100 HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES BY MYSELF I WILL ! I JUST DON'T FEEL THAT IF THIS BILL DIES.... THAT MONTANA'S OLD RECORDS DESERVE TO HAVE THE SAME FATE !! Especially since the Legislature will not meet again for 2 YEARS ! Marien Stolzenburg & I give permission to fax or scan our LETTERS TO THE EDITORS from Wed. 3/21/01 Billings Gazette Paper to any other paper in Montana........or anyone else could write their own to any paper in MT. Sen. Butcher the sponsor of SB 443 says, "Use polite persuasion to the NO VOTERS" on this State Administration Committee..... The NO Voters are: Debby Barrett--Dillon Dee Brown--Hungry Horse Larry Lehmen--Power Ralph Lenhart--Glendive Gay Ann Masolo--Townsend Doug Mood--Seeley Lake Alan Olson--Roundup Rick Ripley--Wolf Creek Clarice Schrumpf--Billings All of these members have heard from the Park County Genealogy Soc. in fact we have written to a lot of the 100 Rep.......so they think that since we are so small we can be ignored!!! The out-of-staters have been begging me to let them help, as have the out of Country Genealogists.........but the Legislators will only listen to Montana people! I have known this from the start. What is sad is that these out-of-staters and out of country Genealogists, really think of themselves as MONTANA people, because some still have family here while others use to live here and still others have very deep MT HISTORY in their FAMILY ROOTS. THEY JUST WANT TO PROTECT THE MONTANA OLD RECORDS... SB 443 WOULD BE THE FIRST LAW TO ESTABLISH A RECOGNITION OF PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT TO PRESERVE ALL OF OUR MONTANA HERITAGE, UNIVERSALLY THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE STATE OF MONTANA!! I have just been told, that in some Montana Counties where they have micro-filmed some......they threw out the OLD RECORDS BOOKS, BUT, the film was the cheapest the County would buy, so the films are so faded that they can't be read! And since it was the Clerks that were doing the filming, they got tired of taking the books apart to be filmed.....so what was filmed was only parts of a page, the bindings had been too big to lay anywhere close to flat! Some of the Counties this happened in were in Rep. Olson's DISTRICT (see above list of No Voters)....whereby these same CLERKs have been calling him to Vote NO!!! e-mail the House of Representatives TODAY !! http://leg.state.mt.us/leg_msg.htm SB 443 IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF DR. & PROFESSOR TOOLE OF THE UNIV. OF MONTANA--MISSOULA. He was The Historian of Montana History & champion to the Preservation of Montana's past through not only artifacts, but also it's WRITTEN HISTORY ! Please Support SB 443. 1. Beaty's in Lowndes County
    2. Looking for information about parents and any other siblings of Thomas Jefferson (TJ) Beaty/Beatty and Andrew Decatur Beaty/Beatty. I am told that their parents were Thomas Beaty and Nancy Brantley, but I have no documentation for this. TJ was born in Lowndes County (approximately 1819) according to his Confederate Service Application. Andrew was born approx. 1815, but do not know if it was in Lowndes Co. or not. They also lived in Pulaski County GA as young children where they were supposedly "orphans" in 1824. However, apparently only their father died, as we found a note from one of Thomas' children stating that Thomas & Andrew's mother remarried a man by the surname of Jones and that they then had a child together named Sam. We have located an index of "Orphan" guardianship in Pulaski Co. GA showing that Darling Jones became TJ & Andrew's guardian. However, we do not know that this Darling Jones is the "Jones" that the mother married. In approx 1860 Andrew & TJ were in Florida in Hamilton County and then to Madison County. Andrew (who married Margaret Bembry in Pulaski Co. GA) stayed in Madison Co., FL. TJ, (who married Charity Frier - but don't know exactly where marriage took place) also went to Hillsborough County Florida (Shiloh area and then Plant City). I don't know if we connect or not. You mentioned History of Cumberland Co., Pa. It is very possible my James Beaty(Baty) was born in NC per the Fed. Census. AM guessing born about 1811-1821. I don't have a clue as to who his father was but I did notice in the Drew Co., ARk. Fed. Census of 1860 there is a Nathan and a Ashley Baty(Beaty). Are any of the below names in your family tree? Just fishing in the dark. dianne ingram in oregon My James Beaty shows up in the Monticello, Drew Co., ARk. court house with many land transactions starting in 1876. I have some BLM land transactions that start as early as July, 1844. Most of the papers include his wife Mary A. We know he had a son James, daughter Mattie, son Henry Martin and another son that died as a young boy when he fell out of a tree. This according to a grandson of James. There is a James Baty in the 1850 census for Springfield Twp. This James was born 1816. He has a wife of Mary A and one child named Martha R. In the 1860 Fed. Cen. for Marion TWP.Monticello PO there is a James Baty, 49yrs. born NC. Wife of Mary (looks like E) 30 yrs old born ARK. CHILDREN: Martha E. 11 yrs. John W. 2 yrs, and Mary 1/2 year. All born ARK. 3. RE: My James Beaty(or Baty)Diane, A small number of Beaty families arrived in NC very early, and they have produced a very large number of progeny. Because I am not sure that any of them are my ancestors, the focus of my research is still in Georgia. Others have been more sucessfull, and have tied some of the Beatys of Ga. to those in Nc. So far as I am concerned this is an unsoved problem, but the suggestions are strong enough that I am interested in the Beatys of Nc. A focal point of Beatys in NC is Beatties Ford, which is on the border between Lincoln and Mecklenburg counties. The actual ford is now under water, however a prominent street in Charlotte is "Beatties Ford Road". There is lots of historical information on the ford and John Beatty, who gave his name to it. Another early resident of that region was a Francis Beaty, who lived a few miles away from the ford in Rowan County. It is not clear whether or how John and Francis were related. Also it is not clear that there was not more than one John and Francis. By the time of the first census (1790), there were quite a few Beaty families in the neighborhood, probably most of them descendants of the early settlers. I did a rather careful analysis of the Beatys of the 1790 census, and found that in NC the preferred spelling was Beaty and most of them were in the neigborhood of Rowan, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, and Rutherford Counties (these are adjacent). It is quite plausible that these are mostly descendants of John, Francis, and perhaps one or two other settlers. Information on how these families are related is rather sparse. There are a bunch of people trying to sort out these families. The 1790 Beatties in other parts of the state probably are not easily related to these. You may find that, as with My James, Your James lived in several places before finally arriving in Ark. In those days travel was difficult. James was a quite common name, and it can be difficult tell one from another. The "panel" suggested I look for the 1850/60 neighbors of my James Beaty(Baty) in NC because lots of times they were related, were in business together, good friends, talked the same language, etc. Since I just found out in December that my James Beaty(Baty) was born in NC - I have not had time to investigate NC. Since you stated there were not many Beaty(Baty)'s in NC - could you tell me what county you located your Beaty's? I noticed in the area of Arkansas that I am interested in (Drew Co.) there was a Nathan and an Ashley. I borrowed some FTM cd's from a friend and I found a Adam Baty in Rutherford, NC, and a Walter L. Baty in Haywood, NC. Till later, dianne ingram in oregon

    3. Diane, I don't have any answers for you, but can contribute a story which is similar enough to be interesting. My James Beaty was known as James Lewis Beaty late in life, but was known by other names at other times. He was a 7 year old in the De Kalb County, Ga. census of 1850. In 1860 the family was in Mississippi and in 1870 in St. Francis County, Ark. He joined the Conferate Army early in the war, and was soon wounded at the Battle of Malvern Hill, near Richmond. He returned to Miss., but then joined a cavalry unit and continued through the war. After the war he moved to Walker County Ala., but then moved on to Ark. After a few of his children died he moved back to the more healthy Ala. He was buried near Townley in Walker County, and many of his descendants still live in the Jasper neighborhood. His ancestry is not so clear, but I have links which look pretty good to the Beatys of Piedmont N.C. There weren't so many different Beaty families in early N.C., but by now they have spread far and wide. Both JLB and his father are indicated in the census as being born in Ga. My candidate for grandfather was born in NC about the time of the Revolution. If My James is related to Your James the relationship is not very close. But, it might not be so distant either. 3. My James Beaty shows up in the Monticello, Drew Co., ARk. court house with many land transactions starting in 1876. The boy James related stories to his brother Henry about Quantrell and stories about the Civil War. He reported knowing Frank and Jesse James. 3. William Henry BEATY (my ggrandfather)was probably born between 1825 and 1835, probably in Indiana or West Virginia. He married Louvina HALL and they had at least 2 children, Walter b 26 Mar 1872 in WV, and a baby girl probably between 1866 and 1873. William died about 1874 probably in Indiana or West Virginia. Louvina had at least 2 other husbands -- John Edward FORTUNE and Hiram E. SAYRE. Walter BEATY settled in Grant Co., OK in the Cherokee Strip and married Georgia DUNN and they had 7 children: Aubrey, Lawrence, Eugene, Alice, Amy, Nellie, and Thane. Walter later changed the spelling of his surname to BATY. Anybody of this line out there??

All born in the 1840-50's we THINK in Tenn. But are not sure where they were born. A _____ Henry Beaty was there father we think. He would have been born sometime in the early 1800's. So...could there be a connection of anykind here? Does anyone recognize anything in this line of my Beaty's??? I have had no connections for a year now! HELP! Sincerely, Tami Beaty
