    3. Connie, I have no hesitancy about posting what I know in a public place like this. I have done a fair amount of searching GA records, but I am quite delinquent about organizing the material. I will try to write up some puzzle pieces as I can. This is something I need to do for my own benfit. I am slow. On sharing: a few years ago I sent my data file to a cousin on my mother's side of the family with the instruction that it should be treated as unreliable. Recently I did a search for Beaty on Rootsweb and there I found some of my Beaty data. The main clue is that it contained some of my guesses, and even one family link which I had just made up. I had funny and uninteresting reasons for recording this incorrect information. The lesson I learned is that I should be very careful about posting guesses. One of my activities of a few years ago was to assemble an index to all the Beatys in the US in 1850. The information was derived from published records. We got permision to distribute this database to members of BP-2000. I think it would be within the copyright restrictions to send it to you if you are interested. At one time or another I have looked at most of these families in the Archives microfilm, but I didn't make good notes. One of my projects is to review this data and make a better record. I have identified 62 families named Beaty, or with names which might have been spelling variations. Pulaski County had A.D. Baity and James Beaty. Georgia had several Beatys named William and Thomas, and even a few Nancys. My well-identified ancestor in 1850 Georgia was James Batey of DeKalb County. Relatively recently I found that by 1860 James and family had moved to Tischomingo County Mississippi. It took so long to track him because the widely distributed census index had left him out. I finally found a different index. More later, --Earl Beaty Boulder Colorado ----- Original Message ----- From: <Chb122154@aol.com> To: <BEATY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 14, 2001 5:31 PM Subject: [BEATY] Beaty's In Georgia > Earl: > > In response to your reply: > > "I am replying on the list with the expectation that others might wish to > join the discussion. 1. [BEATY] Free lookups of Revolution War patriots
    2. Nelda Percival
    3. FORWARDED WITH PERMISSION...Nelda Dear All: Some volunteers from the society of the Daughters of the American Revolution ( DAR) have established a wonderful new program for users of Rootsweb. These volunteers will do lookups in their database and records if you think one of your ancestors served in some capacity during the American Revolution. These volunteers have more databases that are available to them than the ones commonly used by the search engines. The process is fairly simple : Go to the DAR message board: There are two ways to do that: > www.rootsweb.com > message boards > topics > organizations and societies > DAR Or if you want the easy way :-) http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.organizations.dar Address your message as follows: subject : DAR Lookup > surname> location > dates In the body of the message put the information regarding the person, Be sure to fill out the surnames box at the bottom since the new search engine will be keying on that item. Leave the email response box checked and you will be notified when the DAR volunteers respond . Give them a week or so to get to your request. We really appreciate their efforts. This info can be key for: a: joining these prestigious organizations ( DAR & SAR) b: sending a request for the copies of the files that were submitted and the information they have available. Many thanks to: Glenda Thompson DAR VIS Volunteer Vice Chrm. Patriot Lookup for organizing this effort and all the many volunteers that are donating their time and effort to us instead of pursuing their own ancestors, Best Regards John A Hansen DAR board admin. BTW: Please forward this message to other lists and boards that each of you are involved in. A word of thanks to each volunteer that does this work and especially the one that responds to your post would probably be highly appreciated. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

    1. [BEATY] Beaty's In Georgia
    2. Earl: In response to your reply: "I am replying on the list with the expectation that others might wish to join the discussion.  If you would like to review the details of what we have, I would be pleased to do so either on or off the list." Yes, I would like to see what you have. I am also willing to share this on the list. I have been under the assumption that I am looking for a man named Thomas Beaty, with wife supposedly named Nancy Brantley. However, I spoke with a 78 year old Beaty cousin this weekend for the first time and he seemed to think the man I am looking for might be William Andrew Beaty, with no name for the wife. Supposedly this man was approx. 50 years old at the time his son, Thomas Jefferson Beaty was born in 1819 (Lowndes Co. GA according to his Confederate Pension Application). I am posting below the old search request I have been using to see if any of it might fit into your puzzle. Let me know if you find a Thomas Beaty or a William Beaty around the time of 1750 - 1819 in any of your other puzzle pieces. Thanks, Connie Beaty Gainesville, FL (See below) Previous research request: Searching for info on Thomas Beaty, Pulaski County, Georgia prior to 1824. Supposedly married to a Nancy Brantley. Left 2 orphan children, Andrew D. & Thomas J. Beaty. Found guardianship listing on internet for Pulaski Co. 6 Jul 1824: Darling JONES, guardian of Andrew D. Beaty and Thomas J. Beaty. Mary Jones and Haas Jones sec. for $3,000. Also found this printed in a book in the Huxford Genealogy Library in Homerville, GA. We think the children are Andrew Decatur Beaty (married Margaret Bembry)and Thomas Jefferson Beaty (married Charity Frier) who later moved to Hamilton Co., FL>Madison Co., FL. Thomas Jefferson Beaty also went to Hillsborough Co.,FL We have also recently found a handwritten note in some old papers/photos written by Thomas Jefferson Beaty's daughter. She said she thought he and his brother were orphans, however then went on to say that his mother remarried a man by the name of "Jones" and that she thought they had a son by the name of Sam Jones. We wonder if Darling Jones, guardian of the 2 orphaned Beaty children also became their step-father? I am also assuming from a few things I have read on that part of the historical times that if children lost their father, even if the mother was still living, they were still considered to be orphans. I have not made a trip to Pulaski County yet, but hope to sometime in the Spring. I have looked the internet "up and down" and so far have not found anything on Thomas Beaty (father) or Nancy Brantley (mother) - at least not that I recognize. I am assuming that Thomas Beaty (father) should be buried somewhere in Pulaski County since the guardianship was in that county. I haven't found much either on Darling Jones or Nancy Brantley Beaty Jones. I also am not sure of the name Brantley as her maiden name. All I have to go on is something someone told me that had also been looking. I have no documentation on this. As far as the internet goes, its like these people never existed. I have seen quite a few Beaty listings of people in Georgia through the phone number lookups, but there are way too many to call without first trying to narrow down people who might be descendants. The little bit I have found has suggested that the children were born in Pulaski Co., however, I have a copy of Thomas Jefferson Beaty's Confederate Pension Application in which he states that he was born in Lowndes Co. GA.

    3. Beaty's in GA - Our Batey(Baty,Beaty, Beatty, Baity) came from SC, GA, AL, LA, to TX. So be sure and look for all spellings. Our grandfather George Washington Batey had all these spellings on some documents (ie, census, marriage records) our George was born in Alabama, but his father was from SC and mother from GA. We do not know their names or his siblings, only his children and wives. We would be extremely interested in your findings. Our George was in the 1870 census(he was 24) in Elmore Co, Al. Can't anything on him earlier than that. Best Wishes and Good luck, Natt David and Beverly Batey ----- Original Message ----- From: Earl Beaty <ecbeaty@home.com> To: <BEATY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 08, 2001 9:23 PM Subject: [BEATY] Re: Beaty's in Georgia Connie, I also have a brick wall, maybe the same one. My earliest known Beaty ancestor is named James and the 1850 federal census says he was born about 1816 in GA. I have a candidate for his father, named David, who was born about the time of the revolution in NC. One problem is that David and James are common names. To get past the guesswork, I have sought to assemble information on all the Beatys in GA before, say 1830-1850. I am guessing that there can't have been more than 6 independent Beaty families in GA in that time frame. It would be nice to learn enough to be able to at least count these families. What I have found is that the record base is rather thin. Census records before 1850 only give the man's name -- no clue about his family relations. My progress with this project hasn't been great. I have collected some papers which are lying around my office without the analysis needed. The incentive to be more intense is muted because I know that there aren't any cl! ear answers included. I am working on it (slowly). My inquiries have lead to a general background which you might find useful. There was a large migration of "Scotch-Irish" into PA in the early 18th century. Included were a bunch of Beaty families. Many of these Scotch-Irish continued their migration down "The Great Wagon Road" to VA and NC and eventually SC, GA and FL. I looked carefully at those named Beaty (and spelling variations) in the 1790 census of NC, and concluded that most had probably arrived via the Wagon Road. The Wagon Road was improved and extended as it was used, carrying this population further south. The first Federal Census of GA was in 1820, so that is not a good tool for following the flow. I am aware of Beaty families arriving in early GA directly from Europe, but I am still willing to guess that the number is small and countable. Information on general population shifts doesn't do much to fill the family tree, but it can be helpful in knowing where to look for more information. Having failed to find information on specific individuals, the next step is to collect information on whole families. To use a jigsaw analogy: if you can't find a specific piece, work on the neighboring pieces with the expectation that you will eventually close in. I am replying on the list with the expectation that others might wish to join the discussion. 3. Hi All, First of all, my apologies to anyone who gets multiple copies of this message on various lists, or who have already heard this story. I am at a total dead end and am grasping at straws, most of which seem to disintergrate as soon as I get hold of them <bg>. First I will tell you what we know from actual documents. Frederick BEATTIE enlisted in the Royal Marines on 26th June 1847 at Killybegs in Donegal, Ireland. We have full records of his marriage to Ann(e) Willey in 1861, births of various children, emigration to Australia in 1883 and death in 1884. (can't find where he's buried, but that's another story.) Now for what we don't know for sure. On Frederick's enlistment he gives his parents' names as Alexander BEATTIE and Margaret MILLER. He states that he was 19 years, making his DOB 1827 or 28. He also states that his place of birth was "Parish of Killaghtee in or near the town of Hollybrook in the County of Donegal". His occupation is given as Labourer. Well, extensive searches on the net, by mail and in person have failed to find any record of his birth or of his parents' births, deaths, marriage or of them ever having lived in that area. Mmmmm. There is also an adress for Alexander and Margaret of No 1 Albert Place, Brandon Street, Malworth, London. I am not sure what date this address relates to or the accuracy of it, though. So, what is the theory. Did he change his name? If so, I can only think that I might as well give up now. On the other hand, it has also been suggested that Alexander and Margaret may have moved from Scotland as many apparently did in the late 1700s early 1800s, and may then have moved to England, and so were not born, married or died in the area. Well, there it is. If you have any ideas where I can chase more ghosts, or if you have any information that might help, I would love to hear from you. TIA Regards, Jenny in (mostly) sunny Central Queensland

    1. [BEATY] Searching for Hugh/Mary Beaty/Beatty
    2. Deah
    3. I haven't really got far on my Beaty line yet as I seem to have got stuck on another line. But going from some notes that I have been given, I am searching for information on a Mary Beaty/Beatty. Mary was born 1802 to Hugh Beaty. According to these notes, Hugh was born in Ireland, about 1765. He married Margaret Smith who was born about 1770. Mary died in 1851 in Rising Sun Indiana. She married a John E. Hamilton in 1821. He was born in Nova Scotia and died in Rising Sun, Indiana. They had a daughter named Mary, who married a Daniel Johnson. Daniel and Mary Johnson were my great, great grandparents. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks, Deah ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ "Jus Kuntree" http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~chisdid --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
