Now if I could just find my own Beasley line!!! Who are the parents of Joseph and Gabriel Beasley!! Based on the diary of young Mary Louisa Beasley written in 1853, Joseph Beasley was the brother of Gabriel Beasley. This has provided some information about the life of Joseph because Gabriel's story has been documented although his parents have not been found. Between 1800 and 1810, an American named Gabriel Beasley came from Tennessee to Morehouse Parish, Louisiana. There he bought a plantation and married a widow named Sarah Burns. Gabriel Beasley was born in North Carolina in 1785. Gabriel and Sarah had a son named James Washington Beasley. Joseph Beasley is found in the 1820 census for Amite County Mississippi, but not in later census lists so it believed this is the same Joseph Beasley who settled in Louisiana. In 1820 land records show that Joseph Beasley was acquiring land in Louisiana but was living in Franklin County Mississippi at the time. About 1824 he married Hester Whitney who had been born in Kentucky. He and Hester had five children before he died in 1830. He appeared in the 1830 census as head of household, but on August 30, 1830 there were land transactions involving Hestes Whitney, widow of Joseph Beasley. The 1880 Census does not list any of their children and it could be that they moved on to Texas or other parts west as we know their daughter Ruth did. 1820 Census for Township: Harrisonburg County: Catahoula State: Louisiana Joseph Beasley 000310 101000 April, 1820: FIRST SETTLERS OF CATAHOULA PARISH, LOUISIANA: 1808-1839 Self Published by Carol Young Knight.
