>From books at the Brown Co., Ohio library Canton, Ohio, the following information: Book: "The History of Brown County, Ohio" A History of the county; its Twonships, Towns, Churches, Schools,; Etc. illistrated Chicago W. H. Beers & Co. 1883 Index includes only the BEASLEY spelling with first names and pages. Someone was just asking about Jeptha Beasley b. KY 1806 so I checked the index & found the following: page 413 --------------- Jeptha Beasley came about the same time (family above paragraph among the earliest settlers of Union Township, Brown Co.), probably in 1798. He was from Spotsylvania Co., VAA and born August 20, 1969. He had emigrated to Limestone, now Maysville, KY., years before, and in times when Indian ravages were imminent. He served as a spy to watch the movements of the savages across the river. When he came to Union Township, he possessed but few worldly goods. He purchased the farm his son Jeptha, now occupies in the Northeastern part of the Township, and for a number of years engaged in farming and boating. He then removed to Ripley, and was the village inn-keeper for awhile, but, tiring of this life, he returned again to the farm. He was Justice of the Peace for many years, and County Commissioner. His children were Sally, William, John, Elizabeth, Levi, Jeptha and Nancy. ----------------- Politics page # 439: My wording: Old Township record book datres back to March 7, 1825 is a meeting of Township Trustees in which were present Jeptha Beasley, among others. ---------------- --------------- This book has biographical sketches and pictures. I only have a very few pages so please do not ask me for copies. I do not have them. I will; however, check the index for anyone asking, hoping I am not deluged! :-) ============ Another book, which I have a few pages of, and will relay next time, contains a map of Brown Co. showing Ripley is very near the Ohio River (boating in above paragraph). It also contains an Index of surnames. Jeptha Beasley is listed here also. This book is located in the Library of Wooster, OH, NOT Canton. ============= This book copy pages were sent to me from my good friend in Ohio and I wish to thank her now for her great job. Thanks, Shirley. Hope this helps Wilma! Regards, Ruth in CA
