This is for Heise. [email protected] Thanks for sharing information on Beasley Island and John and Solomon Beasley. I live in Wilmington, NC near what was once Beasley Island (now Figure Eight Island). I have done only a small amount of work on tracing my family tree and have very little information to offer. I know that this area, all of Pender Co. (where Figure Eight Island is) and New Hanover Co. (Wilmington) was at one time all part of Craven Co. New Hanover Co. came into existance later and included what is now New Hanover and Pender Co. Pender Co. came into existance in the late 1870's. I think, but am not certain yet, that my great-great-grandfather's name was James Edward Beasley. I am told that he is buried in a church cemetary near Burgaw, NC in Pender Co. (about a 30 minute drive north of Wilmington). My great-grandfather, Thomas Daniel Beasley, lost his father at the age of 7 in the mid or late 1870's and was raised in Pender Co. north of Wilmington near Burgaw, NC by his mother and a step father. I am told that Thomas Daniel's father (James Edward ?) fought with the Confederate army during the Civil War and received a head wound that later caused his death when he was still a young man. Thomas Daniel moved to Wayne Co., NC as an adult and raised his family there near the town of Seven Springs. He is buried near there. My grandfather, William Crooms Beasley (Willie or W. C.), (1899-1989) lived in Wayne Co. all of his life. He is buried at Mt. Olive, NC in Wayne Co. Some additional information: Masonboro Baptist Church in Wilmington (located on Beasley Road) lists a John James Beasley as its pastor in 1881 and then again after two others in 1885. The church also lists Edgar Leroy Beasley near the top of the list as one of the deacons who served the church. (No date on Edgar Leroy.) I am not sure what the connection is between John and Solomon Beasley on Beasley Island, but I believe that either one or both are part on my family tree. I would appreciate you sharing any information that you have on their descendants.
