Married 1824 Sarah Elizabeth 'Sally' Reese (born 22 Feb 1809 SC; died 1888 TN, buried Fuller's Chapel, Law Co, TN). Jim/June Palmer <[email protected]> wrote the following: "Silas & Sarah Elizabeth loved their children and gave stern training. He stated that he especially hoped that none would become selfish or greedy. He lived mostly in abandoned Indian villages where he would clear land, raise crops, improve the village and sell and move on to do the same things over again. During the two weeks that sixteen members of the Beasley family spent passing through the country between Decatur and Nashville it became evident that some of them had contacted some of the loathsome diseases so prevalant in the army. After living one night in a freight car at Gallatin, Silas Jr was able to secure an old building with two dirty rooms. All but one of the family members became sick with measles, diarrea and symptoms of smallpox. The family moved to a small old tenement house two miles North of Gallatin where Silas Sr died of measles at the age of sixty-seven. When a doctor arrived, only Silas Jr was able to sit up.
