These are my direct ancestors and the "Annie Nivens" born in August of 1884 is Anna Livicia Nivens, not Vicie Ann. Anna Livicia Nivens married James Lane Beasley, these are my great grandparents. Anna Livicia Nivens b. 1884 is the d/o James Thomas Nivens b. 1859 and Emma Jane "Amy" Cape (I have the large oval rounded glass in original frame portrait that graces my main living room, it was handed down from my grandfather who was the son of Anna Livicia Nivens and James Lane Beasley). James Thomas Nivens was the son of Thomas Jefferson Nivens b. 1827 and Jeminima Pamenella Poindexter who is also referred to as Vicie Ann Poindexter by some in records, this is where the confussion comes in on Vicie Ann, who is part Cherokee. After years of research, this may have occured due to the Native American in Jeminima and it was very common at this time for them to actually change their entire names. So anyone researching this family, not only do you to research Jeminima Pamenella (also even listed as Jemima) but also for Vicie Ann Poindexter. She was the d/o Archibald Thomas "Tom" Poindexter and Fannie Coe. This family of Poindexters and Nivens all came out of Tennessee. Hope this helped some. Best Regards, Kathy

My G-Grandfather was James Henry Beasley (white) born 1848 in Alabama. He was disowned by his father (don't know who he was)because he married beneath him. He married a housekeeper Eugenia Alice Morgan (white) in Whistler AL in 1880. He was a fireman for the Mobile and Ohio Railroad. All of his children were born in Whistler, Alabama. They moved to Meridian MS(Lauderdale County) and in 1902 and he was killed while working for the railroad. James first wife was N.A Unknown Beasley. They had one child. I don't know if she died or they divorced. My Grandmother was Pearl Beasley born 1895 in Whistler, who married Carl Hutton Poythress in Meridian, MS. I sure hope some of this rings a bell. I have been searching for a connection to my G-Grandfather for 2 years. I have been told that his family never spoke to him again after he married my G-Grandmother. So sad but things were so different back then. Please get in touch, if this is part of! your line too. You can also email me directly. Elaine [email protected]
Listers, I need your help! I am searching for all Beasley families that have brother & sister Thomas and Mary. There MAY be other children too. Thomas was born in VA. Mary was born in Washington Co. VA . In will of Thomas, dated 1863 KY, he named "my sister Mary Allen" in the past-tense so she may have died before 1863 and also mentioned "my interest in Warren Beasley's estate". PLEASE look for the subjects of this mail. I really need your help. Ruth in CA

This is for Heise. [email protected] Thanks for sharing information on Beasley Island and John and Solomon Beasley. I live in Wilmington, NC near what was once Beasley Island (now Figure Eight Island). I have done only a small amount of work on tracing my family tree and have very little information to offer. I know that this area, all of Pender Co. (where Figure Eight Island is) and New Hanover Co. (Wilmington) was at one time all part of Craven Co. New Hanover Co. came into existance later and included what is now New Hanover and Pender Co. Pender Co. came into existance in the late 1870's. I think, but am not certain yet, that my great-great-grandfather's name was James Edward Beasley. I am told that he is buried in a church cemetary near Burgaw, NC in Pender Co. (about a 30 minute drive north of Wilmington). My great-grandfather, Thomas Daniel Beasley, lost his father at the age of 7 in the mid or late 1870's and was raised in Pender Co. north of Wilmington near Burgaw, NC by his mother and a step father. I am told that Thomas Daniel's father (James Edward ?) fought with the Confederate army during the Civil War and received a head wound that later caused his death when he was still a young man. Thomas Daniel moved to Wayne Co., NC as an adult and raised his family there near the town of Seven Springs. He is buried near there. My grandfather, William Crooms Beasley (Willie or W. C.), (1899-1989) lived in Wayne Co. all of his life. He is buried at Mt. Olive, NC in Wayne Co. Some additional information: Masonboro Baptist Church in Wilmington (located on Beasley Road) lists a John James Beasley as its pastor in 1881 and then again after two others in 1885. The church also lists Edgar Leroy Beasley near the top of the list as one of the deacons who served the church. (No date on Edgar Leroy.) I am not sure what the connection is between John and Solomon Beasley on Beasley Island, but I believe that either one or both are part on my family tree. I would appreciate you sharing any information that you have on their descendants. Hi List, I have been reading with some interest the recent Beasley postings; given the apparent knowledge of the Beasley family on the part of some of you, I will put forth my own Beasley question. My Beasley connection is via Ruth Beasley, b. 1753 in Berkeley, Virginia, d. 02/19/1842 in Fulton County, Illinois. According to the material I have found, she married William D. Dollar/William James Dolier in 1780 in Virginia. Does anyone have any information on either of these two individuals, as well as information as to how they ended up in Illinois from Virginia? Thanks, in advance. Mark McLeroy Appling, GA

I have been working on the Beasley line for a short time. I have not done much recently, due to other commitments, however, I have a Lucy Beasley, daughter of Elisha Beasley and Jane Tilly. Now mind you, my information comes from someone else. Anyway, Lucinda (Lucy) was born maybe about 1825, in Stokes Co., NC. Her mother died in Stokes Co., IN. Also, my source tells me that this Lucy married John Hildebrant 1842 in Spencer Co., IN. Elisha had two or three wife's. I have not worked on this line for awhile, so I am a little vague. This could be true for some lines, but with the information available at this time, this child could not be the father of the John Pitts Beasley. > > The story Leonard heard was that Ann became pregnant and was sent to the Colonies. She eventually married, but the child became Pitt or Pitts Beasley. In Amelia Co., Virginia, Will Book 2:7, is the will of Richard Beasley, dated 9 April 1770, proven 26 September 1771. In this will Richard names his Wife Ann, and his Son Ambros Beasley, "by som people called Ambros Pitts," and his three children named Richard Beasley, Junr., William Beasley, and Ann Beasley. Now perhaps there is a possibility that this William could be the father of our John Pitts Beasley, but with the wording of the will of Richard it would make you wonder if he was old enough to be married and already have a family. > > If Chatham was at least 18-20 years old, this would have made the child born about 1726-1728. If this child was the father of John Pitts Beasley, born at least by 1740, he would have been 12-14 years old at the time. The confusion and belief that it could be is probably due to the fact that the name Pitts has been used in some branches of our line of Beasleys for many many years. > > Our John Pitts Beasley, who was married to Elizabeth, and also who died in Warren Co., North Carolina, purchased land in Virginia on 10 March 1761. Part of this 198.75 acres was in Amelia County and part of it was in Prince Edward County where the deed was filed in Deed Book 2:58. John Pitts Beasley had to be at least 21 years old to purchase land, and therefore he would have been born at least by 1740. She is the one who had a bastard child that might have been fathered by Lord Pitts of England. This child, Ambros, would have been born before November 1728. Richard and Ann had no children of their own to survive them (this is apparent from the will). Richard may have been related to our John Pitts Beasley, but that has yet to be established. We do not know if William I had given plantations to William II and Benjamin already, and those were the ones they were living on. The will does make reference to land adjoining the plantations they were then living on. Based on an estimated birth year of 1708 for Richard, and allowing two years between children, William III might have been born about 1706. The first letter to Etta contained several errors which he corrected in the letter to Albert. The following is a typescript of a xerox copy of the letter which Ann Beasley (daughter of Albert) provided Janice Sanders Carver and she reproduced it in her book, Climbing Zachariah's Tree; A Genealogy of My Beasley Ancestors (Memphis: Peerless Printing Co., Inc., Oct. 1988): > > Franklin Tenn. McCown has not seen the original typed letter from William Thomas Beasley. However, William Thomas Beasley does make reference to his great uncle William's Bible. Leonard has seen this Bible (published in 1875), and has xerox copies of the family register it contains. This Bible was owned by Mrs. J. Dobson Johnson of Franklin, Tennessee in July 1980 when he saw it and made xerox copies of the family register. Mrs. Johnson was the former Sarah Anna Beasley, daughter of William James Beasley, and granddaughter of William Beasley and his second wife, Mary T. White. Mrs. Johnson died 16 April 1991. While it does contain the birth and death records of his parents, various records of William's brothers and sisters, and his own family, it contained nothing concerning the family being a descended from Lord Pitt of England. > > Mrs. Johnson also had a handwritten letter, which Leonard believes she kept in the Bible, from "Uncle John" written from 5967 Corona Avenue, Huntington Park, California, September 20, 1938. He tells about the Beasley family beginning with John P. Beasley and his wife Lucy. "Uncle John" was John Wiley Berry Beasley, born 17 February 1860 near Linden, Perry Co., Tennessee, and was the son of William Beasley and his 2nd wife, Mary T. White. Again he makes no references to the family being descended from Lord Pitt of England. > > William Beasley was the son of John Pitts Beasley and his wife Lucy (Ellis) Beasley. Leonard is not sure where William came up with this story or idea, if he did. Perhaps he did research or had some research done and the will of Richard Beasley was found. This story could have easily have grown out of this will because of the use of the name Pitts. However, Leonard does not see how our John Pitts Beasley could have been the son of William Pitt of England. > > This are my thoughts on this...please see how you can work it out. > > > > ==== BEASLEY Mailing List ==== > "When an old person dies ... it's like a library burning to the ground." > Beasley-Beesley Surname Site http://www.ourchildrensancestors.com/beasley/ >
