Author: harlowchandler_1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.beasley/2231.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The book was written by cousins of my wife. Some of the principals in writing, publishing and distributing the book, which was done privately, are deceased, and I do not know if it is available anywhere now. The book was not done according to the current conventional standards of organization or documentation. The material was gathered largely through soliciting information from living relatives, but sources are not given. There are branches that are not covered. The book is not indexed. However, given all these cautions, I do have a copy and could try to do limited lookups if that would be helpful. But keep in mind that the book is not indexed and unless I have a pretty specific idea of what branch to look at I'd have to go through the book page by page in order to find someone, and I don't think I'm ready to do that. I did not find a used copy using Bookfinder.com, and given the type of distribution and number of copies I'd think they don't come up often. If you have not tried asking on Rootsweb's Smith County (TN) mailing list you might try that as the book was done in Smith County and there are a lot of local people on that list who might know if copies are available. 1. Re: [BEASLEY] Beasleys of Early co GA
    2. Now if I could just find my own Beasley line!!! Who are the parents of Joseph and Gabriel Beasley!! Based on the diary of young Mary Louisa Beasley written in 1853, Joseph Beasley was the brother of Gabriel Beasley. This has provided some information about the life of Joseph because Gabriel's story has been documented although his parents have not been found. Between 1800 and 1810, an American named Gabriel Beasley came from Tennessee to Morehouse Parish, Louisiana. There he bought a plantation and married a widow named Sarah Burns. Gabriel Beasley was born in North Carolina in 1785. Gabriel and Sarah had a son named James Washington Beasley. Joseph Beasley is found in the 1820 census for Amite County Mississippi, but not in later census lists so it believed this is the same Joseph Beasley who settled in Louisiana. In 1820 land records show that Joseph Beasley was acquiring land in Louisiana but was living in Franklin County Mississippi at the time. About 1824 he married Hester Whitney who had been born in Kentucky. He and Hester had five children before he died in 1830. He appeared in the 1830 census as head of household, but on August 30, 1830 there were land transactions involving Hestes Whitney, widow of Joseph Beasley. The 1880 Census does not list any of their children and it could be that they moved on to Texas or other parts west as we know their daughter Ruth did. 1820 Census for Township: Harrisonburg County: Catahoula State: Louisiana Joseph Beasley 000310 101000 April, 1820: FIRST SETTLERS OF CATAHOULA PARISH, LOUISIANA: 1808-1839 Self Published by Carol Young Knight. Mary Louisa Beasley was born March 4, 1842 to James Washington Beasley, the son of Gabriel Beasley. This diary entry was written in 1853, when she was ten: "Jan 1, 1853 Today is the first day of the New Year. I have done nothing but talk to Lizzie Pruett. She is going to stay all night with me. There are some people over to the house. They are Grandpa's brother Joseph's children. He has two. One is Mrs. Capers and the other is a young lady named Hester Beasley. Mrs. Capers has three children Lizzie, Mary and Hester. Mrs. Pruet is Lizzie Pruet's mother. Mrs. Pruet was married again after Jos. Beasley died." 2. I have some info from Beasley Blood.? I have questions about the connection that the author has made of?Henry Beasley (d. about 1795 NC) and his son Isham,? being decendants of the Beasleys of the NC coast.? I am pretty certain that Henry?instead came to NC from Essex Co., VA and have much to support this.? I am willing to share anything I have and caution?accepting?the Beasley Blood early info without further research and proof.? I also have info that disputes Henry as being the son of John? Beasley and Lydia Daly/Dally of NY as given by many researchers.? Please contact me directly if further info is desired. 1. [BEASLEY] Beasley's Sought for Lost Colony Project
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: craingen Surnames: Beasley Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.beasley/2230/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I wanted to follow up on an introductory posting about the Lost Colony Genealogy and DNA program. So much has transpired since the inception of this project this past summer. After the general info here, we'll give you specifics about the Beasley surname and our project. First, neither Roberta Estes, Anne Poole, Nelda Percival nor Jennifer Sheppard are associated with the Lost Colony Center for Science and Research as was initially posted in the summer of 2007. We all resigned in September and are moving forward with our Genealogy and DNA Research program as an independent group of volunteers. Secondly, our goal remains to discover whether or not any of the colonists survived. In order to make that determination we have put together a multi-step program. Step 1 - Create a data base of DNA results and associated family genealogy in order to compare to same surname English families who are/may be related to the Lost Colonists. Step 2 - Research the surnames of interest which include the colonist roster and other surnames that emerge in the areas where the colonists are believed to have settled, if they in fact survived. Step 3 - Research the early NC and VA coastal records involving Native American tribes and early settlers. Step 4 - Research English records to find relatives of the lost colonists. Step 5 - Document the oral history and legends that pertain to the Lost Colony and colonist families including both family history and physical locations. We are specifically looking for individuals who lose their genealogy very early in Eastern NC, those of Native American descent, or those who have done research either in NC, VA or the British Isles related to this surname. In order to further that goal, we have established the two DNA project, a yline and a mitochondrial project which you can find at: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/LostColonyYDNA/ http://www.familytreedna.com/public/LostColonymtDNA/ We (Nelda actually) have created a website where we are providing DNA information along with genealogical research and other relevant data. Our Lost Colony website is located at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~molcgdrg/index.htm Please consider contributing to the site if you have any historical or extracted records from any of the early or coastal NC counties for any of our surnames. You can contribute data to be posted by contacting any of our administrators or sending it directly to our webmaster at nelda_percival@hotmail.com. Be sure to put "Lost Colony Website Posting" or something similar in the subject line. We ask each of our participants to provide their genealogical information and any other relevant research which is also posted on the website, so please take the time to look closely at each of our sections. Our frequently asked questions are here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~molcgdrg/facts/faq3.htm We're also in wikipedia now at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Colony_DNA_Project General Lost Colony articles of interest can be seen at our blog at: http://www.the-lost-colony.blogspot.com/ Every researcher who is interested in these surnames, or in the Lost Colony specifically, can be invited to participate in our Yahoo group whether or not they have DNA submitted to the project. Many of our best researchers are descended from these surnames, but don't carry them today. If you are interested sharing and contributing to ongoing research, let us know and we'll send you an invitation. Now let's take a look at the Beasley surname in the Lost Colony project. Beasley is listed as a family of interest. We currently have one Beasley who has joined the DNA project: Mark Beasley has volunteered as the Beasley research coordinator: http://www.rootsweb.com/~molcgdrg/g/beasley-index.htm We need Beasley family members to participate. Does your Beasley family track back to the British Isles? Do you know of research there? Do you know of any interesting oral history that relates to this topic? Do you know of anyone who has or might be conducting research there or who might interested in DNA testing? We look forward to hearing from anyone who is interested in this history-making project. Our group is listed below with our research specialty. *Roberta Estes - Native American, mixed race and early Virginia records, DNA analysis - restes@comcast.net *Joe Chandler - British Isles and early NC and colonial records research - joechandler@yahoo.com *Rob Noles - Lumbee Tribe, NC, SC and Georgia records - rbnoles@bellsouth.net *Anne Poole - Oral History Documentation project and Archaeological locations - croatan56@gmail.com *Janet Crain - Correspondence, historical research and Blog - ljcrain2@pgrb.com *Nelda Percival - Webmaster and Lost Colony Yahoo Research Group moderator - nelda_percival@hotmail.com *Penny Ferguson - Melungeon records, historical research - currently on sabbatical *Jennifer Sheppard - Certified Genealogist, NC records - shepjr@coastalnet.com *Dr. Ana Oquendo Pabon - African diaspora, Native American, DNA - ladoctora@gmail.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I volunteer to take gravestone pix. One that I have taken at Harris County Cemetery II in Houston, TX caught my eye so I thought that I would look up the name in the census and luckily it came up! I am not related to these families in any way. I just wanted to share the information to help unravel some mysteries for some people. I am uploading the 1930 census image along with the gravestone for Aurelius Singleton. The census image was taken from HeritageQuest.
