Author: Dlh10502 Surnames: Beasley, Hardy Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.beasley/2239/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Am looking for any information, but especially anecdotes, about Henry Hardy, born 10 Feb 1797 and died after 1850 in Grayson, VA. He was married to Rachel Beasley 17 Jan 1822 in Grayson, VA. She was born 25 Aug 1805 in Grayson, VA. They were my ggg-grandparents. Henry was the son of John Hardy, born 1750 in VA. I have been unable to locate any information on John's wife. There seems to be confusion as to the parents of Rachel Beasley. Some sites identify Benjamin Beasley and a Cherokee woman named Catherine. Other sites identify Robert Beasley and Catherine Cato. Thank you. Sereptha is my gg-grandmother. There is a marriage bond in Wake county NC, 1802 for John Beasley and Ailey Snipes. John Beasley's will names only daughters, Ann, Mary, Lucinda, Keziah, and Alla. He notes that Drucilla Crook is his granddaughter and she also inherits. Sereptha is not mentioned but married in 1853 in Union Co. NC . I have tried for years to find Sereptha's parents. I feel that she must be a daughter-in-law or niece. She is buried at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Union Co. with a birth date of 1834.If she was 18 in 1850 that may not be accurate. I would like also to know if this John had sons. Billie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: harlowchandler_1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.beasley/2231.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi I believe you already know more than the women who compiled the information in the book, as they do not have a daughter Mahala for Mary and John. In fact they didn't know it was Mary Ann. They have these children listed with this, and only this, information: Dolphus, m. Eunice Butler; Clarkie, b. 1853; William, m. Cora Bell Vaughn, Nancy, b. 1855; James Clinton, b. 1857, m. Minnie Beasley; Frankie, b. 1859. That is all there is I believe. The organizing principal of this book is obscure. There is no index or numbering system. As far as I can tell, they do not follow this line, although it is remotely possible that although I paged through twice looking for more I missed it. The principal author was a cousin of my wife, and a lovely, generous person who put this book together out of love for the family, but in apparently complete innocence of contemporary standards of organization and documentation. It follows most closely the line that includes the author and my wife (Braddock's son Isham) and is treasured by those in that group, especially as it contains some family tales and photographs. I think others would find it far less useful. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
