The early American history books describe the Indians as considering themselves royal and even as "haughty." Massasoit manipulated meetings if he did not believe he got the proper respect. Sachem Linda certainly supports the fact that "Royal" natives married others of their class. Documented genealogies support this. This may be an issue of semantics, not substance.
