    3. Hi gramma Sue, The town was Thorp, Wisconsin, there are still alot of them in Milwaukee ,Wausau and Eau Claire, as far as I know they all spell it Burss. I have been in touch with 6 or more close cousins all with the spelling Burss. The story goes and this was from my grt. Aunt Martha Burss (who lived to be almost 102). Her grandfather Ephriam Bearss#2 , changed the name to Burss as he didn't like being called Bareass. Am not sure how many of his sibblings chose that spelling, some stayed with Bearss.
