Okay, I must have been thinking of a different ancetor, maybe Dennis Egerton and Expience Bierce or thier Hezekiah Egerton and Mary Hedgebone. One of them only had daughters and the name did not get carried on. Also how come you don't spell it "Bierce"? I guess another misconception of mine was that James and Experience diescendants did Bierce as opposed to Bearce. Oh well, Learn something new everyday. Sachem Linda came to the reunion. Sharon Ndec77barr@aol.com wrote: > Sharon, > > You are a gem. Now who is Sachem Linda?
By semantics I mean that some people think of the term "Royal" in a very narrow way. Native people had very structured society but it did not appear the same as European royalty. They related to the first Europeans as emmissaries of the British king, thus they allowed their daughters to marry Englishmen. Massasoit refused to attend meetings with the British if they did not show him the proper respect. Sachem Linda Elderkin Degnan is Sachem of the Pokanoket Wampanoag- Massasoit Ousa Mequin's tribe. She has been involved with New England Native American genealogy for over 20 years. She does not accept money for her genealogy help. Unfortunately, she is very busy right now. She is listed on our Family Site. Sharon Ndec77barr@aol.com wrote: > Sharon, > > You are a gem. Now who is Sachem Linda? (A wise one?) The early American history books describe the Indians as considering themselves royal and even as "haughty." Massasoit manipulated meetings if he did not believe he got the proper respect. Sachem Linda certainly supports the fact that "Royal" natives married others of their class. Documented genealogies support this. This may be an issue of semantics, not substance.
