It was quite frustrating reading the family lines of those who wrote for the book. I found myself wondering how many of you were my distant relatives. Yes, the Sullivans, Lowneys, Harringtons, Kellys, Hanleys and who knows who else are in my tree. So here are my ancestors. Great great grandparents--Jeremiah Sullivan (Ukirre) and Margaret Harrington page 94 of Allihies book from Coom great grandparents--Jeremiah Sullivan (Ukirre)and Catherine Clifford (vel Brien)_page 139 of Allihies book from Ballydonegan After gm Catherine died Jeremiah married Margaret Hurley in Fall River and when she died he married Julia (Sheila) Hanley. She was the daughter of Patrick Hanley and Mary O'Sullivan (uonhi) from Reentrisk alto she is not listed on page 7 of the Allihies book.. Before she came to the US and married g grandpa she was married to Cornelius Sullivan as listed on page 82 of the Allihies book On page 112 Allihies book it states that g grandmother Catherine was married to Jerry Sullivan living near Lincoln Ne (see above). Her mother was actually Mary Kelly who was I believe, married to a Clifford before being married to Michael OBrien. Mary Kelly was later married to James Uonhi Green page 113. According to her death record in Michigan in 1880 her father was Con Kelly and mother Anna Kelly. I have a good friend here in Lincoln who is a descendant of Patrick Harrington and Mary Harrington on page 115 My Allihies book is held together with masking tape. This is of course only one side of my family and will post the other side soon In case anyone is wondering, I was a Sullivan and married a Sullivan. Fortunately, I did find that his grandfather was born in the Newmarket area. So we are probably not related. Teresa Sullivan Lincoln Ne
Teresa and Bill, This book is such a treasure! Thanks very much for sharing. I very much appreciate your making this sharing possible. I feel a real connection with my roots because of all that is shared here ...by you and by so many others...about Beara. I am very grateful for you all! /Susan
Hi Teresa, all, Teresa wrote: > I found myself wondering how many of you were my distant > relatives. I'm pretty sure we're all related, as long as our ancestors were among the families of the Beara peninsula. I know my grandmother told me more than once she was related to everyone she knew growing up in Castletownbere, save only the British sailors at the naval station. The trick, of course, is in figuring out how we're related. Riobard's marvelous work has helped us quite a bit, but it's still very hard to identify marriages that took place before ~1830, and nigh unto impossible to identify any before 1798. Even so, I do consider you all my extended family. We're a vast bunch of cousins flung across the world, with common ancestry and common heritage. -- Bill
I'm a descendant of Ellen Dulig - born abt 1798 on Dorsey Island and Timothy Connolly - born abt 1793 in Glenara, Garnish, Allihies Parish. My Grandmother's name is Lillian Agnes Connolly born 8/15/1910 in Castletown Bere, Allihies Parish. Thanks to you and Bill. I couldn't empathise more with your feeling of whether they could be your family. It reminds me that I should repost my interests again just in case . I am a Sullivan from my father whose family came to Australia around 1907 from Ireland via a generation in Wales. I live in hope of finding my family one day. Thank you again.
