    1. [BEARA] "A ghost, A ghost" !!

    3. Though today is Christmas Day, it is also a day when people visit the graves of their own people. Joan & myself are just home from visiting the grave of my parents in the fairly new graveyard in Gortnabulliga, close to Eyeries Village; to the grave of Joan's parents in the upper graveyard in Foildarrig, near the town of Castletownbere; and to the graves of my ancestors in the Lower Graveyard in Foildarrig. I was telling a man in Gortnabulliga Graveyard of a story I heard many years ago. There were these two Doctors, and, at the time, experiments were being carried out on dead bodies. Anyhow, the two Doctors visited the ancient Glebe graveyard, about a mile to the west of Castletownbere, and, in the middle of a dark night, began digging for the bones of one particular man who was buried down the field. A local man, who had heard that the two Doctors were to go digging that night, went to the graveyard before the two Doctors had arrived, and hid behind a clump of furze bushes close by. In case they would be seen, the two Doctors arrived in the middle of the night. The wind was howling. They began to dig, and had gotten down a few feet when the man behind the furze bushes left out a loud roar -- "waau-ah-uuu-ah". The two Doctors dropped their shovels and "took off" like as if they were being chased by a typhoon. The more they ran, the louder your man was roaring "wooooooo --- ah ah" after them. The two Doctors didn't wait to open the gate; they jumped headlong over the wall; got up like two March hares; and ran and ran until they reached the main road. "A ghost; a ghost" they cried. They never again "visited" the Glebe graveyard, and were glad to do their experimenting elsewhere. Riobard. -- Riobard (O'Dwyer)
