Hi, gentle Beara folk, I'm contemplating a possible trip of about 2 weeks to Ireland with my family, up to 11 people (6 adults, 5 children ages 6-21). We would perhaps spend about 5 days in Beara roaming the lands of my Murphy/Sullivan roots and spend the rest of the time touring the rest of Ireland. Does anyone have any ideas I might take advantage of especially with respect to a B&B in Beara, transportation (I should think we'd need 2 or maybe even 3 cars......by the way, is there a maximum driving age in Ireland?), and any other relevant advice ? The time frame would probably be June-August because of school constraints. I've traveled Ireland with my wife only and merely planned each succeeding day and place as each day ended, but I suspect that with a large group that might not be so easy. Any information would be helpful. Many thanks, Paul Murphy
Can you fit me in your luggage? I could just get lost among the rest of the party and make it a solid dozen. With that many people I would see about getting one or two of you free. Talk to a couple real live travel agents. With a larger group they can do this. ~~C Paul Murphy <fpm60@embarqmail.com> wrote: Hi, gentle Beara folk, I'm contemplating a possible trip of about 2 weeks to Ireland with my family, up to 11 people (6 adults, 5 children ages 6-21). oops. That should read Formanes House, not Faromanes. pb Paul Murphy wrote: > Hi, gentle Beara folk, > > I'm contemplating a possible trip of about 2 weeks to Ireland with my > family, up to 11 people (6 adults, 5 children ages 6-21). Dear Paul, Try Beara Holliday Homes. Person in charge was Ann O'Sullivan (of course!). It was modern, up to date and warm, but charming. They have weekly rates, plus electricity. Weekly rate there is probably less than a B&B would cost for five days, plus you will be able to catch up on laundry and save money on your meals. It is located a mile or so west of Allihies; Castletownbere is a short drive away. The postal address is - Beara Holiday Homes, Fuchsia Lodge, Filane West, Castletownbere, Co. Cork, Ireland. Their email address is: info@bearaholidayhomes.com Get a SMALL car, with AUTOMATIC transmission. Not only will you save petrol, but the roads will seem wider and the parking spots bigger, and you will be thankful for that. Don't try to mess with a stick shift -- you will have enough to think about without having to tackle gears. Consider a walking or biking trip on Bear Island while you are there, and have a nice lunch at Kitty's Restaurant. And, don't forget the cable car to Dursey Island, another fine walk. Cousin Paul, I'm jealous! You will have to take lots of pictures! Maybe you will find someone who remembers your Sullivans or our Murphys! ;-) Susan On Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 4:12 PM, Paul Murphy <fpm60@embarqmail.com> wrote: > Hi, gentle Beara folk, > > I'm contemplating a possible trip of about 2 weeks to Ireland with my > family, up to 11 people (6 adults, 5 children ages 6-21).
I always pre-hire my car at Cork Airport with Budget. Last year I spent just over 2 weeks at: Summer Hill B&B Droum North, Castletownbere, Beara Tel: 027 70417 Mobile: 086 2226271 Email: cornelius@ireland-guesthouse.com Website: www.ireland-guesthouse.com Just outside Castletownbere. Good central point for touring e.g. Allihies, Eyeries, Bere Island and further afield. Nealie O'Sullivan is the proprietor; food, accomodation and service were first class, with very reasonable rates. You would need to book in advance with the numbers you are planning to take.
