Hi Theresa, I show a Patrick Murphy killed in the St. Lawrence Mine on 11/23/1889; another Patrick Murphy died in the Bell Diamond on 08/04/1900; Patrick D. Murphy died at the Berkeley Mine on 10/25/1909; a Patrick M. (or Patrick E.) died at the Granite Mountain (Speculator Mine) tragedy on 06/08/1917; another Patrick died at the Mountain Con on 04/11/1930. Hope this will be of help. Linda, Thanks so much, I'm amazed at the number of Patrick Murphy's who died in mining accidents in Butte. Our Patrick Murphy is the Bell Diamond explosion on August 4, 1900. Apparently a charge was set on another level and the call went out and he ran the wrong direction, directly into the blast. He left a young wife, Maggie Sullivan Murphy, who was given a year's supply of coal as compensation and she then ran a boarding house in their home. The two young daughters grew up with a marvelously industrious mother, but missing their father. Thanks for getting back to me.
