To help support his claim, he presented Lord Lansdowne with a gift of. 7 Japanese deer. However, the Chieftainship went to Peter Mac Sweeney, son-in-law of the last Mac Finnan Duff's sister, Mrs. Browne. Sylvester O'Sullivan (interred in St. Finian's Lower Cemetery, below North Road, Castletownbere), a direct descendant of the Mac Finin Duff, was born in Collerus, Lauragh, Co. Kerry; served in the Royal Navy in the Baltic Russian War; retired in 1887 as Senior Officer, Coastguard, died on March 20th 1911, aged 78. His sister Elizabeth was the last to be buried in the grave of the Mac Finin Dubh at Kilmackillogue, near Lauragh. His wife Elizabeth died on 29/7/1909, aged 67; his sister Catherine died in 1911. His daughter Elizabeth died on 25/6/1938, aged 65. His son Richard died on 19/7/1944, aged 69. His niece Helena O'Sullivan Dolan died in Fermoy, Co. Cork, in 1946. Dear Terry, The best person you could get in touch with is Connie Murphy who has a Degree in History and who has done an in-depth study of all the those Chieftains, etc., who lived back before Church Records came into being here in Beara.
